Superb. Cerundolo gives Nadal the run around and then wrong-foots him with a lovely forehand winner. 0-30. A sniff...

Few are going to be backing against Nadal today.

With Cerundolo only winning his first ATP match on a grass court this month, it seems highly unlikely the 23-year-old will upset two-time champion Nadal.

But, and there is always a but in a two-person sporting contest, here is note of caution.

Remember the names Steve Darcis and Dustin Brown? Exactly.

In 2013, Nadal was stunned by Belgium's Steve Darcis in straight sets in the first round here.

Two years later, he was beaten by world number 102 Dustin Brown in the second round.

Centre has seen stranger things than Nadal, now 36 and dealing with that chronic foot issue, lose to a world number 41 who is having a breakthrough season on the ATP Tour.

    *Nadal 3-1 Cerundolo

Can Paul Jubb take it to a championship tie-break (up to 10)? No-one is leaving this match. Gripping, enthralling, brilliant.

Jubb to serve, 5-6 down in the fifth.

  8. Gauff to serve for the matchpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    *Gauff 2-6 6-3 6-5 Ruse

Wow, Gauff prevails in an 11-minute game and grabs a crucial break after a horribly timed Ruse double fault.

The American will serve for the match!

  9. Kyrgios saves break point to holdpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    *Jubb 6-3 1-6 5-7 7-6 (7-3) 5-6 Kyrgios

Break point for Jubb, but Kyrgios's serve 133mph down the middle soon sees it vanish.

That's followed by a 134mph serve and the Australian holds his nerve.

    Nadal 2-1 Cerundolo*

Oooh. Lovely rally and almost a wonderful slice from Cerundolo, just dragging it into the tramlines. Some good early exchanges inn this one.

Jubb, who has looked so calm all match, produces a wonderful forehand to find the line for deuce on the Kyrgios serve when it's 5-5 in the fifth.

    Nadal 2-1 Cerundolo*

Wicked from Nadal, throwing down a little knuckleball that tests the strings of Cerundolo and settles into the bottom of the net. And after a mini scare he accelerates through to hold.

    Jubb 6-3 1-6 5-7 7-6 (7-3) 5-5 Kyrgios*

    *Nadal 1-1 Cerundolo

Well, he's making Rafael Nadal work for it early on out on Centre Court. Francisco Cerundolo takes the first point on the second seed's serve and then tickles over a delightful drop shot that leaves the veteran on his heels. 15-30.

  17. Jubb breaks to stay in the matchpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

    *Jubb 6-3 1-6 5-7 7-6 (7-3) 4-5 Kyrgios

Great drama on Court Three. Nick Kyrgios was serving for the match, but Paul Jubb has shown superb character to break his serve just when he needed to.

It's back on serve in the fifth. Brilliant entertainment.

Brilliant from Jubb, who gets to a drop shot, Kyrgios thinks he's won the point, Jubb slides in flicks it over the net and it kisses the line. Break point, Jubb, for the third time.

    Tim Henman
Former British number one on BBC TV

These early moments on a debut against someone like Rafael Nadal, Francisco Cerundolo needs to hit his spots. Sometimes when you are new to the occasion uit can happem pretty rapidly so that was a good settle for him.
