Over on court 12, Britain’s Ryan Peniston is under way against Switzerland’s Henri Laaksonen.

The 26-year-old home player is a break up in the opening set, and there’s a call of “Finish him, Ryan!” from up in the main stand as he prepares to try and consolidate his early breakthrough.

Two fine first serves ensure he does just that.

Lots of famous faces out on the practice courts this morning, with Rafael Nadal among those loosening up for the day ahead.

Plenty of people have gathered at the entrance to Aorangi Park in the hope of catching a glimpse of - or even a signature from - their favourite stars.

Uh oh. Just as fourth seed Paula Badosa swings by to say hello, a few drops of rain begin to fall.

Hopefully that shiny new Wimbledon umbrella won’t need to be up for long…

  6. Berrettini out of Wimbledonpublished at 11:21 British Summer Time 28 June 2022

Matteo Berrettini's withdrawal is a huge blow.

Having reached the final last year, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in four sets, Berrettini was in brilliant form in the build-up to SW19.

He beat Andy Murray to win the Stuttgart Open title in what was his first tournament for two months after undergoing hand surgery.

The Italian then retained his title at Queen's a few weeks ago and would have arrived at Wimbledon having won 20 of his past 21 grass-court matches.

It’s the first point on Court 18 and the umpire is down on the court checking the surface as Katie Swan took a tumble.

The Briton is back on her feet but that won’t help her confidence early on.

The crowds are beginning to gather on the hill, but unfortunately the clouds are also continuing to gather above us.

It’s not currently supposed to rain - the BBC weather forecast says there’s a ‘low chance’ throughout the day - but after yesterday’s downpour and delays everyone will be keeping their fingers crossed…
