Huge forehand from Basilashvili, and Murray can only float it into the net in response!

Murray tells himself he's not happy with his level and then watches his second serve get brutalised past him by Basilashvili.

He's on the board as Basilashvili sends a forehand long, before even the Georgian is bemused by a horrible return of serve that misses its mark by a mile.

    30-30.

We know Murray loves a tubthumping crowd to get him over the line. Remember when he beat Basilashvili at Wimbledon? What an atmosphere.

That's what he needs now as the lactic acid presumably kicks in.

Of course it won't be the same here as under the lights on a partisan Centre Court.

But the Melburnian expats are doing their best. Spotted a couple of Saltires draped over knees and wafted in the cool summer breeze.

Wonder if mum Judy, who handed out tickets to Scottish fans for some of her son's matches in in Sydney last week, has been on the case again...

Game, set and match - Watsonpublished at 06:42 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Watson 6-3 5-7 6-2 Sherif

British number two Heather Watson is into the second round, thanks to a three-set win over Egypt's Mayar Sherif.

Watson broke in the opening game of the match and then again in the final game of the first set to take it 6-3, before narrowly losing the second.

She was broken in the seventh game of the second set but broke back for 5-5, only to drop serve again in the 11th game.

Watson was broken in the first game of the deciding set, then instantly fought back before further breaks in the sixth and eighth games gave her the victory.

Andy just feels a bit frustrated with the depth - all landing a bit short, and Basilashvili is absolutely melting the ball.

  7. Basilashvili holdspublished at 06:39 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Murray 6-1 3-6 6-4 2-3 Basilashvili

Murray comes dangerously close to obliterating his racquet as he misses a return of serve for 30-0.

His next few returns are excellent, though, firing the ball straight back at Basilashvili, and the Georgian can only net in response.

An ace, however, closes down any sniff of a break chance for Murray.

  8. Watson one game from victorypublished at 06:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Watson 6-3 5-7 5-2 Sherif*

Heather Watson consolidates that break of serve by holding her own and responds by punching the air.

She is one game away from beating an opponent 11 places above her in the world rankings.

Such an important game for Murray to hold, and he's a little bit more settled now.

  10. Murray holdspublished at 06:36 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Murray 6-1 3-6 6-4 2-2 Basilashvili*

Another lovely move forward allows Murray to pop away a backhand and get to game point.

A flat-footed Basilashvili misses a forehand, and that's a very good hold for Murray.

  11. Watson breakspublished at 06:34 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Watson 6-3 5-7 4-2 Sherif

Britain's Heather Watson is two holds of serve away from round two after getting what could be a crucial break in the sixth game of the third set.

A forehand found the corner to give Watson two break points and Mayar Sherif then sent a forehand into the bottom of the net on the first of those to give Watson a route into the second round. Can she finish the job off?

  14. Murray under pressure on servepublished at 06:33 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Murray 6-1 3-6 6-4 1-2 Basilashvili

Murray is approaching full grump mode. His mood is not improved as Basilasvhili sends a forehand winner rifling past him.

A cry of "what are you doing?!" comes from the Brit as he tees up the Basilashvili forehand, but he works his way to 30-30 with a good second serve.

  15. 'Nervous about amount of Murray's court-time'published at 06:30 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Murray 6-1 3-6 5-4 1-2 Basilashvili

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

The only thing I would be a bit nervous about is how much court time Andy Murray has had.

He was always one of those guys who took a week off before a Slam because he felt he didn't need the matches.

    Watson 6-3 5-7 3-2 Sherif*

Over on Court Eight, British number two Heather Watson's match with Egypt's Mayar Sherif is on serve in the deciding set.

Watson, ranked 74th in the world, took the first set before Sherif, 63rd in the rankings, took the second.

Sherif broke in the first game of the third set, but Watson fought back immediately in the following set.

Watson has just claimed a hold to love in a match that has moved past the two-hour mark with plenty more to come.

  17. Basilashvili holdspublished at 06:29 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Murray 6-1 3-6 6-4 1-2 Basilashvili

Basilashvili relocates his range, and Murray pushes a shot just long to hand the Georgian a quick hold.

Ball leaves Basilashvili's racquet like ammo coming out of a Smith and Wesson. Keeping his weapon steady is the problem.

There have been a whopping 62 unforced errors from his racquet today. Some have been closer to the fans than the court line.

And then there was that serve in the first set. A stone cold classic which the internet will never forget.

  19. Murray holdspublished at 06:25 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Murray 6-1 3-6 6-4 1-1 Basilashvili*

The win predictor thingy is 91% in Andy Murray's favour.

He gets himself to 30-15, both players showing a hint of frustration with a few mistimed shots, but Murray is coming out on top more in the longer rallies.
