I keep seeing loads of groups of young teenage guys. I love they are interested to come and watch the tennis.

He is a complete entertainer. He's so interactive. It's fun to watch Kyrgios.

  2. Kyrgios breakspublished at 10:03 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 4-6 4-6 1-2 Kyrgios*

Broady is upping his agressive as he coaxes Kyrgios to go long to bring up game point.

He might be losing his focus a little but don't count Kyrgios out though - he claws himself up to deuce, and as he clinches a break point, he orchestrates the crowd to start whipping up a storm.

Ohhh Kyrgios catches a lucky break (literally) with the netcord.

Ouch - what a way to nudge ahead.

He's lifting his level isn't he? You can feel it. The momentum is shifting slightly.

Again, I don't know whether it's the difference in the scoreboard pressure as Liam was able to hold that serve.

Now then - is Kyrgios' shenanigans beginning to take a toll?

    A through-the-legs shot, and a fantastic put-away from Broady.

Broady is pressing more now, but Kyrgios does save a break point, and closes out his game with a roar to match,

But Broady's tail is up now.

  5. Crucial game for Broadypublished at 09:52 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 4-6 4-6 1-0 Kyrgios*

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live

It was especially because it's been the pattern of the match. It's a massive game for Liam to win. It's the first time he's serving from behind at the start of a set.

It might put a bit of pressure on the Kyrgios serve game.

  6. Broady starts third set with a holdpublished at 09:51 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 4-6 4-6 1-0 Kyrgios*

Oh surely we can't see history repeated for the third set in a row?

Kyrgios gets to 30-15 but Broady steps up his pace a little, breaks the pattern and finishes off the game with a forehand winner and wins his opening game for the first time this match.

    Rejoice.

  7. Are you not entertained?published at 09:48 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 4-6 4-6 Kyrgios

    Jonathan Overend
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

It's the weight of the delivery that Broady can't do anything about. The Australian loved and despised in equal measure it seems. We have certainly been entertained. The match has only lasted an hour and 18 minutes. Two identical sets.

Broady has battled hard but cheered on by the boisterous supporters it's Kyrgios [ahead].

  8. Game and second set - Kyrgiospublished at 09:47 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 4-6 4-6 Kyrgios

Kyrgios' talent has never been in doubt, and tonight he is giving us a glimpse of what he is capable of when he wants to.

He can try and be too flashy, finding the net and handing Broady a point, but he polishes off his game with an ace.

  9. Kyrgios asks for quiet for Broadypublished at 09:44 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 4-6 4-5 Kyrgios*

    Jonathan Overend
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

He's [Kyrgios] affectively saying I don't mind it if its me. That's nice and generous. He doesn't want to dampen the party mood but he does bring with him that level of respect to his opponent. Some people don't think he brings that.

  10. Kyrgios errors creeping uppublished at 09:43 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

Definitely just lost his focus a bit Nick. 17 unforced errors from the Australian now, 12 from Broady. At least he is winning that at the moment.

    Broady 4-6 4-5 Kyrgios*

Amidst all the 'suis'ing, the chaos, the battle-cries (ok maybe not those), Broady quickly and efficiently goes through his service game, and there might be just a chance that Kyrgios is losing a bit of focus.

Good hold though, as Kyrgios will come out to serve for the two-set lead.

  12. Kyrgios frustrated by noisespublished at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 4-6 3-5 Kyrgios

    Jonathan Overend
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

Kyrgios is now joining in with the strange noise brigade. Well played Nick, he's trying to quieten them down. He's agreeing with Murray [who didn't like them earlier today]. If you're just having a nice night out at the tennis and you're sat next to them, you'd be getting very annoyed, wouldn't you?

  13. Postpublished at 09:40 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 4-6 3-5 Kyrgios

The crowd 'sius' away to their heart's content, and Kyrgios shakes his head and kicks the ball ... Ronaldo doesn't have anything to worry about in THAT department.

He finishes off the game, and asks the crowd to do that only once a set!

Just the glimmer of a little irritation though by Kyrgios with all that going on.

  14. Energy dwindling?published at 09:37 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

He knew the longer you can keep Nick out there for he is going to dip [in energy].

  15. Broady coming backpublished at 09:36 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 4-6 3-4 Kyrgios*

    Jonathan Overend
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

Just the frustration of losing his serve in the opening game of both sets. It's created an uphill task.

He knows that he doesn't need us to tell him.

  16. Postpublished at 09:35 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 4-6 3-4 Kyrgios*

Are we beginning to see a dip in the Kyrgios energy levels? Is that wishful thinking on our part?

Broady having a bit more luck moving the Aussie around as he clocks up another game.

An ace just when he needed it - a heady 5, but more importantly his first serve seems to have found its way to Broady from the locker room.

    Business end coming up.

    *Broady 4-6 2-4 Kyrgios

[On a match at Rod Laver Arena against Medvedev] Nick would be complaining, he would want to be on this court. You can hear why, this has so much atmosphere.

    *Broady 4-6 2-4 Kyrgios

    Jonathan Overend

The backhand cross is quite breathtaking. Broady played a good shot but Kyrigos with the angle darted it across court. what can you do? Not much against tennis like that.

  19. Postpublished at 09:32 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 4-6 2-4 Kyrgios

It is hard to see where Broady can make a dent in the Kyrgios service game, it has to be said.

He is trying through, to build up the points and try to get Kyrgios on the move.

Kyrgios finishes things off with massive, huge serves, and shuts the door.

  20. Postpublished at 09:27 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

Liam Broady could not really ask for a better place to make his main draw debut - he is playing his part with the crowd too and he and Kyrgios share a laugh as Broady squares away another hold - keep hold of the Kyrgios coattails.
