    *Broady 4-6 1-3 Kyrgios

    Jonathan Overend
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

Kyrgios dummied, he did it twice, then he actually did the underarm serve but Broady was wise to it. It was exhibition stuff. There will be some tennis buffs shaking their heads at this but he's winning.

    *Broady 4-6 1-3 Kyrgios

After the laughing and the joking - we are all firmly back in business on the Kyrgios serve with an easy turn of the arm that would probably also send many cricketer a-quaking.

All kinds of japes as Kyrgios dummies as if to do the under-arm serve - Oh I say.

Broady manages to get him on full stretch to take a point off the Aussie, but Kyrgios just finishes it off.

  3. Sabalenka a set downpublished at 09:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Sanders 7-5 2-1 Sabalenka

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live

Sabalenka is really struggling with her serve. she hit so many double faults last week. Similar to Nick here, her game is set around her serve. If that's gone, her game crumbles around that.

  4. Antics on the courtpublished at 09:20 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 4-6 1-2 Kyrgios*

    Jonathan Overend
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

Broady is creasing up that something Kyrigos has said. Broady can't serve because he's laughing so much!

  5. Broady on the board in set twopublished at 09:20 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 4-6 1-2 Kyrgios*

So what can Broady do here?

He is managing to keep his nerve and claws himself to deuce after Kyrgios steals a quick march on his serve.

An ace from Broady and a nice moment though - both players all smiles while Broady is at game point - great recovery from the Brit and he is on the board.

  6. Postpublished at 09:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 4-6 0-2 Kyrgios

There is no messing about from Kyrgios as he absolutely steamrolls through his service game to consolidate the break.

Oh and let's chuck in another underarm, while we are up in the game. And a through the leg shot too. Dear me.

He claims the game with an amazing passing shot down the line.

This is really rather good from Mr Kyrgios, as he bows to the crowd.

  7. The serve is the differencepublished at 09:15 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 4-6 0-1 Kyrgios

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think he'll know he's serving so well out there. He knows as soon as he gets this break, he knows how much that means.

It makes it difficult to get any head way. The difference between them is their serve percentages.

  8. Kyrgios breaks at the start of the second setpublished at 09:12 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 4-6 0-1 Kyrgios*

Broady saves a couple of break points but Kyrgios is prowling like a tiger.

Goodness - Broady paints the line with that backhand to get to a third deuce, but to no avail as he just lands wide in the next point to give the Aussie a fourth break point.

A swatted Broady forehand smacks the tape, and Kyrgios starts with a break. Again.

    *Broady 4-6 Kyrgios

Set number two is starting much as the first set and Broady finds himself 0-30 down.

Kyrgios is standing very aggressively in the court to clobber a second serve - Broady's first serves have been missing in this first game as he finds himself defending off a break point.

Great effort from the Brit to salvage that start to get to deuce.

  10. Game and first set - Kyrgiospublished at 09:03 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 4-6 Kyrgios

Kyrgios has Broady at full stretch, picks off the first two points but tries an uber-casual cross-court pick-up at the net that doesn't quite work.

He belts down another missile of a serve and finishes things off with a 10th ace.

He jogs back to his chair - and it is like we are back to the good old days when Kyrgios was the supreme entertainer.

    Broady 4-5 Kyrgios*

Broady having to be a little more canny now we are getting to the business end of the set.

He's slowing the pace down a bit on his serve and starting to drawing some errors from Kyrgios.

He stays in contention but can he find a way to get a dent in the Aussie's serve?

  12. Fierce serving from Kyrgiospublished at 08:57 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 3-5 Kyrgios

Blistering serves from Kyrgios - Broady puffs out his cheeks as yet another ball goes whistling by for 30-0.

That service game was another whirlwind and those serves are so difficult to read.

Broady a bit of a spectator in that game.

  13. Postpublished at 08:53 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 3-4 Kyrgios*

Now what can Broady do to mix things up - a bit of kick-serving? Well why not.

Kyrgios engages in a little banter with the umpire over a double bounce, saying "I'm not that fast," - always the entertainer.

A solid serve to hold for Broady. Confident.

  14. Postpublished at 08:50 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 2-4 Kyrgios

First double fault for Kyrgios, but with serving stats like 92% there really is nothing for his boisterous fans in the stands to worry about, as he comes through another service game.

  15. Postpublished at 08:46 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 2-3 Kyrgios*

Kyrgios improvises to strike first again in Broady's service game, but the Brit unleashes a few bombs of his own with some great serving.

Keeps it to a single break - more of that please.

  16. Kyrgios motoringpublished at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 1-3 Kyrgios

Service games from the Aussie are ripping through quite quickly - he is not giving Broady any real rhythm, so all he can do is keep in contention as much as he can.

Two aces in a row, three in the game. Motoring.

  17. Broady on the boardpublished at 08:39 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 1-2 Kyrgios*

A couple of errors from Kyrgios helps Broady on his way to get a game on the board.

That should settle the nerves a little for all concerned, as sister Naomi is on commentary duty for her baby brother.

  18. Kyrgios the showmanpublished at 08:36 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Broady 0-2 Kyrgios

Kyrios is looking remarkably fresh for someone who is taking to the court for the first time since missing a tournament with asthma, and then testing positive for Covid.

But if anyone can hit the ground running after a break, it is Nicholas Hilmy Kyrgios.

He rocks right through his service game and he is loving life. Has barely missed a ball.

And let's finish off with an under-arm serve, through the legs - because... why not.

  19. game, set and match

Game, set and match - Evanspublished at 08:35 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Evans 6-3 6-4 6-0 Goffin

Dan Evans joins Andy Murray in the second round of the men's singles.

It's a fantastic performance from the 24th seeded Evans as he seals the third set in under half an hour against the world number 45.

  20. Kyrgios breakspublished at 08:32 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Broady 0-1 Kyrgios*

Off we go then - Broady to serve, with a rowdy Kyrgios-loving crowd.

After losing the first point - he's quick to come forward and looking to be aggressive.

Kyrgios slaps the ball back for 30-30 looking like he's having a hit down the park, and some nerves on show as Kyrgios brings up a first break point - and the crowd predictably goes wild as the Aussie strikes first.
