The atmosphere on Cain has just been turned up a notch.

The sius (see 08:00 entry) turn to boos as Liam Broady walks out first. And the boos turn to cheers when Kyrgios follows.

A group of Greek supporters - all wearing blue t-shirts and chanting football-style songs - are particularly vocal.

Broady is a Manchester City fan. He must feel like he's turned up in the Old Trafford home end wearing his sky blue top.

  2. 'I want a deep run'published at 08:25 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Murray 6-1 3-6 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 Basilashvili

More from Andy Murray on playing in front of fans again: "Last year we were playing with no fans in stadiums.

"We train and practise to allow us to play in atmospheres like this and entertain you guys, I'm so happy."

On his aims for the tournament: "Hopefully keep improving - there are things in my game I could do better.

"I would like to have a deep run. It's something I haven't had since I came back from injury - and I hope I can do it in this tournament."

  3. Evans breaks Goffin's serve againpublished at 08:23 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Evans 6-4 6-3 3-0 Goffin

It is all going Dan Evans' way now as he breaks David Goffin's serve for the second time in the third set.

It's a long way back for the Belgian now. Unless things go horribly wrong, Evans will be joining Andy Murray in round two.

    Broady v Kyrgios

It was quite a moment for Liam Broady to make it through to the main draw of the Australian Open for the first time in five attempts, and he faces Nick Kyrgios who had to pull out of the Sydney tournament after testing positive for Covid.

  5. Evans gets early break in the third setpublished at 08:20 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    *Evans 6-4 6-3 1-0 Goffin

Dan Evans has started the third set just as he started the second - by instantly breaking David Goffin's serve.

After a lengthy, high-quality baseline rally, Evans maintains the pressure and Goffin is forced into the mistake as he sends a forehand long.

That gives Evans the break and if he holds his serve from here on then he is into round two.

  6. 'I couldn't ask for any more'published at 08:18 Greenwich Mean Time 18 January 2022

    Murray 6-1 3-6 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 Basilashvili

Andy Murray speaking on court about his return to the Australian Open: "It's amazing. Been a tough three or four years. Put in a lot of work to get back here.

"I've played on this court many times and always had fantastic suport. This is where I thought I had potentially played my last match three years ago. Couldn't ask for any more.

"It was a brutal match in Sydney [against Basilashvili]. I had to do a lot of running, a lot of defending but a little confidence from the win."

The Hulk Hogan-style celebration is back.

Murray raises his arms slowly into the air, turning towards his box and lapping up the acclaim.

He’s almost staggering, like he's just won Wrestlemania.
