    *Raducanu 3-6 3-3 Cornet

That's eight points in a row now for Alize Cornet as she takes the first point on Emma Raducanu's serve.

Make that nine! She calls for more from the crowd after a stunning drop shot takes her to 0-30.

Some huge points coming up for the defending champion here.

Violent exchanges from the baseline. A lot of these shots would be winners against any other player from Raducanu, but not against Cornet.

    *Raducanu 3-6 3-3 Cornet

Alize Cornet appears to have found some consistency again. A volley gets her up and running on serve, before Emma Raducanu's attempted drop shot falls short.

A Raducanu slice drifts wide and we're back level at 3-3!

  4. Nadal breakspublished at 02:02 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    Hijikata 6-4 2-6 1-3 Nadal*

Rafa Nadal has gone a break up in the third set, and it was a break that was pretty much gifted to him by Rinky Hijikata.

Nadal raced to a 40-0 lead, giving him three break points, and he wrapped it up on the second as Hijikata double-faulted for a second time today.

  5. 'Raducanu not as animated with the crowd'published at 02:01 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    Raducanu 3-6 3-2 Cornet*

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live

If Raducanu does survive the match - she fed off and enjoyed the crowd last year but I don't know if she doesn't want to do it - she's just not as animated with them this year.

  6. Cornet breakspublished at 02:00 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    Raducanu 3-6 3-2 Cornet*

Emma Raducanu is gaining confidence with each Alize Cornet error. A couple more see the British teenager move 30-15 ahead.

    But here comes Cornet again!

Out of nowhere she finds another gear, firing in a backhand for break point before a deadly drop shot finds Raducanu flat-footed. What a response.

  7. 'Raducanu riding the wave'published at 01:56 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    *Raducanu 3-6 3-1 Cornet

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live

I feel like Raducanu is riding the wave - staying steady mentally but maybe adding in a few more of those high balls.

She has kept her patience and kept her composure not to panic.

  8. Raducanu breakspublished at 01:56 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    *Raducanu 3-6 3-1 Cornet

The momentum has well and truly swung in Emma Raducanu's favour now.

The Briton goes after her opponent to force the final error for a 3-1 lead but, as improved as Raducanu has been over recent games, that one was all about Cornet's level dipping.

  9. Break points Raducanupublished at 01:54 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    Raducanu 3-6 2-1 Cornet*

Alize Cornet can't blame the roof for that one at least.

Yet another double fault hands Emma Raducanu a cheap opening point.

    Another! Oh dear.

Cornet takes a moment to compose herself, but a third double fault in four points hands Raducanu two break points.

  10. 'Cornet screaming, Raducanu serene'published at 01:51 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    Raducanu 3-6 2-1 Cornet*

    David Law

Cornet is screaming at her support box. It's all their fault. Meanwhile, Raducanu is just serene.

  11. Raducanu holdspublished at 01:50 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    Raducanu 3-6 2-1 Cornet*

This is much better from Emma Raducanu, who takes charge on serve and draws the error from Alize Cornet for 40-15.

That's the way to seal the hold! An ace wraps up a second game in quick succession for the defending champion to turn a must-win set in her favour.

    Hijikata 6-4 2-6 1-1 Nadal*

After a short wait for the roof to be closed on Arthur Ashe, there's no messing about from Rafa Nadal at the start of the third set as he bags a love hold.

But anything Nadal can do, Rinky Hijikata can do too, sealing a love hold for himself in the very next game and greeting it with a fist pump.

  13. 'Crowd want a fight back'published at 01:47 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    David Law

You can hear what the crowd want. They want a fight back from Emma Raducanu - and the first step in that fight back has begun.

  14. Rain incomingpublished at 01:47 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    Gigi Salmon
    BBC Sport tennis commentator

The roof has been closed on Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong - perhaps as a pre-emptive strike if rain is on the way

  15. 'Raducanu must find way to impose herself'published at 01:46 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    *Raducanu 3-6 1-1 Cornet

    Naomi Broady
British player on BBC Radio 5 Live

Raducanu has to find a way to impose herself and maybe she can mix up the rhythm. That way these high shots are a bit of a surprise - but she has to find a way to hit those damaging shots.

  16. Raducanu breaks as the roof is closedpublished at 01:46 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    *Raducanu 3-6 1-1 Cornet

Alize Cornet opens with an ace but Emma Raducanu finds the corner with a delightful forehand in response.

The roof is now being closed during the game - and Cornet isn't happy about it.

With all that going on above her, she double faults. A chance for Raducanu... taken! We're level again in set two.

  17. Cornet breakspublished at 01:42 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    Raducanu 3-6 0-1 Cornet*

A smile from Alize Cornet, who volleys in to claim the early break in the second set.

Plenty of work for Raducanu to do from here.

  18. Break point Cornetpublished at 01:41 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    *Raducanu 3-6 0-0 Cornet

Another unstoppable forehand takes Raducanu to game point, but a poor miss at the net could prove costly.

That's in to the net from the defending champion. Another chance for Cornet.

  19. Raducanu saves break pointpublished at 01:39 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    *Raducanu 3-6 0-0 Cornet

Boom! Raducanu fires a two-handed backhand perfectly down the line for 30-30, but a double fault opens the door for Alize Cornet.

A fearless forehand winner gets her out of trouble, for now.

  20. Game and second set Nadalpublished at 01:38 British Summer Time 31 August 2022

    Hijikata 6-4 2-6 0-0 Nadal*

It's all square once again on Arthur Ashe, as Rafa Nadal breaks Rinky Hijikata's serve for a second time and with it, wraps up the second set.

Hijikata hit 12 unforced errors in that set as he hit a bit of a mental block, Nadal capitalising on that to pull himself level in this tie.

He celebrates the set win with a hop, skip, a fist pump and a "VAMOSSSSSS".
