After that epic of an eighth game, Ajla Tomljanovic has raced into a 40-15 lead on Serena Williams' serve and has two break points.

Finally, we have a breakthrough.

On her sixth opportunity, Ajla Tomljanovic secures the hold and everyone can breathe again.

If Tomljanovic reacts again to this crowd, it could be lift-off...

Ajla Tomljanovic is showing signs of frustrations at the crowd's overwhelming support of her opponent.

Apart from her box, Tomljanovic fans are few and far between.

Oh my word, this is never-ending.

Williams can't return off the backhand and we're at an eighth deuce.

A third consecutive advantage for Ajla Tomljanovic goes begging as Serena Williams powers a forehand into the corner. She can't convert a fourth either, Williams playing superb shots to stop her in her tracks.

The next advantage goes Williams' way and it's a fourth break and set point...

Tomljanovic gets an advantage but like Williams, cannot convert her opportunity, once again sending a scooped backhand over the baseline.

She gets another chance for the hold but this time it's Williams who puts too much behind a return, and we're back at deuce for a *checks* fifth time.

The net shall not let Williams pass. Back to deuce. Again.

Serena Williams brings play into the centre and crashes home a volley at the net to earn a third break and set point.

The way Serena is hitting, it is impressive that Tomljanovic has even managed to stay in this set.

A first set point goes begging for an inpatient Serena Williams, but she soon finds herself with a second as Ajla Tomljanovic sends a backhand a touch long.

A Williams backhand return is judged out and it's back to deuce.

A 0-30 lead for Serena Williams is soon cancelled out, as the American great sends a forehand return sailing into the net.

But then smashing (literally) play at the net hands her break and set point...

Serena's mum, Oracene, looks as cool as a cucumber in the player box, as does Venus. They have done this hundreds of times before.

Williams lets out a huge roar as she wins the point off the forehand to get the advantage, and an even bigger one as she gets the hold. As one, Ashe leaps to its feet in celebration.

That was an important hold, to stop Ajla Tomljanovic from getting any real momentum after those successive game wins.

Win one more game and the set is hers.

Serena Williams has two game points but she lets Ajla Tomljanovic back into it, and she takes a moment to compose herself before serving at 40-30 up. It does little to help as she misfires a forehand well wide.

Deuce.

Boom. Ajla Tomljanovic isn't out of this set just yet.

The Wimbledon quarter-finalist races to 40-0, but despite conceding the next point, grabs the hold with a backhand directed towards the corner.

Very little noise from the Ashe crowd in reaction to that hold...
