That game has just reminded me of the other night, when Serena was 40-0 up on serve and she had a minor slip in concentration and started overplaying the first serve in particular. But she got it back just fine the other night...

No orders for bagels this time round. A much trickier game to navigate for Williams and she's broken by Tomljanovic on the second attempt.
The Aussie can't convert a first break point but can a second and she's given herself a chance in this second set.
A lovely show of sportsmanship among that from Williams, as she applauded a fine cross-court shot from Tomljanovic early in the game.

Again, somehow, Serena is finding some extra energy. I thought Tomljanovic had that point because Serena was half a step slow coming forward. It was nifty net play.

Winning the opening set, you felt, would be crucial.
Firstly to get the adrenalin and confidence pumping around the 40-year-old's body, and secondly to feed it further from the crowd's energy.

She can't seal the deal on the first, nor the second, but it's third time lucky as she perfectly places a forehand on the line.
Williams is going to have to come from behind if her farewell tour is to continue.
