    *Murray 2-2 Kokkinakis

Uh oh, double fault not an ideal start to the game for Murray.

He claws one back, then attempts a drop-shot that doesn't make it over the net. 15-30.

    *Murray 2-2 Kokkinakis

It's a much more straightforward hold of serve for Thanasi Kokkinakis this time around.

Andy Murray got on the board just once in that one, with the Australian whipping a forehand into the corner to level things.

    Couacaud 1-6 7-6 (7-5) 2-6 0-2 Djokovic*

Oh he's just so good when he wants to be. Once again, Djokovic finds himself with two break points, a delicious lob bringing up 40-15 on Couacaud's serve.

The Frenchman fights and staves them both off, but at deuce, a ripper of a forehand plants down between the tramlines and Djokovic has another sniff of a break.

He can't do anything with it though, netting a backhand, but takes his chance at the fourth time of asking.

Laughter all round - except from Murray - when he aborts the ball toss and someone suggests the gulls flying overhead should shut up.

Think it was the breezy wind rather than the squawking birds which put him off.

    Murray v Kokkinakis

    David Law
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It's pretty heartbreaking what happened to Thanasi Kokkinakis. When he burst on the scene as a 17-year-old seven years ago he was really exciting. We thought he would be in the top 20 for many, many years.

He lost about three years of his career and when he details all of the injury problems he has had over that period - surgeries, breakdowns of physical fitness when he has made a comeback - it is tough to listen to.

I have seen him in interviews where he has detailed how badly it has affected his mental health.

It is really only in the last 18 months or so that he's really been able to get back out on to court, stay there and physically be robust enough to withstand what his body is put through when he is out on the court.

It's nice to see him happier again, and enjoying it, even though he has lost several years of his career, his doubles win last year with Nick Kyrgios was a huge moment for him. That has also helped him feel part of tennis again and as though he has achieved something.

He's playing well at the moment, He is hitting the ball really hard and he's going to go for broke I expect against Murray. He will also have the crowd, although that might even work against him to some degree, making him edgy.

Murray might be able to take advantage of that and jump out to a lead and dominate from there.

    Murray 2-1 Kokkinakis*

Murray soaks up the pressure with an excellent first serve, before coming up to the net to smash down a winner.

A seagull distracts Murray and he mistimes his throw before a serve. The seagull cops a bit of abuse from a fan. Murray isn't fazed and gets his hold.

    *Murray 1-1 Kokkinakis

Murray continues to make loud noises, almost in indignation, every time Kokkinakis sends him running for the ball.

He gets there every time though and forces Kokkinakis to hit the ball wide. 30-0.

The Australian attacks a second serve on the next point then returns with a huge forehand down the line. 30-30.

    *Couacaud 1-6 7-6 (7-5) 2-6 0-1 Djokovic

After a short wait while Couacaud took a toilet break, Djokovic picks up where he left off with a comfortable hold.

At 40-0 down, Couacaud prevented the love hold with a long forehand that JUST nips in by the skin of its teeth, Hawk Eye proving so.

But Djokovic seals the game on the next point.

"Ohhhh Kokk-in-ahhh-kis!" is the chant which reverberates around Margaret Court Arena after the home player holds serve.

(To the tune of Seven Nation Army, if you're struggling.)

The singalong was led by one fella on the top deck wearing an Aussie green and gold rugby shirt and a classic bucket hat with the corks dangling down.

    Of course it was.

One of the key things to look out for is going to be how Murray's body holds up after his brutal battle against Matteo Berrettini two days ago.

Another is how Kokkinakis copes with such a big occasion.

The world number 159 is aiming to reach the third round of his home Slam for the first time and has already shown signs of nerves with a few loose returns.

  13. Another break point for Murraypublished at 11:31 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2023

    Another chance...

A lengthier rally comes to an end as Kokkinakis' backhand sails into the net.

  15. Postpublished at 11:29 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2023

    Murray 1-0 Kokkinakis*

Murray looks as nimble as the 26-year-old across from him as he stretches for a backhand in the bottom-left corner. He gets that one back, but no chance on the next backhand from Kokkinakis, who saves the first break point.

  16. Two break points for Murraypublished at 11:28 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2023

Early opportunity for the comeback king.

  17. Game and third set Djokovicpublished at 11:28 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2023

    Couacaud 1-6 7-6 (7-5) 2-6 Djokovic

Oh this is brilliant from Djokovic. He makes it look so easy as he earns himself two break and set points.

The first goes uncoverted but a Couacaud error off the forehand hands Djokovic the set.

That third set lasted just 32 minutes, compared to the one hour 18 minutes of the second.

Cracking atmosphere on Margaret Court Arena, which is the second show-court at Melbourne Park and adjacent to Rod Laver Arena.

It's a cool night in Melbourne with a breeze making it even chillier at almost 10:30pm.

But the home fans are bang up for this, with lots of shouts of support for 'The Kokk'.

  19. Chance for Murraypublished at 11:27 Greenwich Mean Time 19 January 2023

    Murray 1-0 Kokkinakis*

'Andy, Andy, Andy - oi, oi, oi!' comes a chant from a smattering of fans.

Fervent support on both sides for these two.

Thanasi Kokkinakis kicks things off with a solid serve but swings a backhand wide to make it 15-15.

Murray comes forward on the next point and whips a cross-court forehand to give himself a chance at 15-30.

    *Couacaud 1-6 7-6 (7-5) 2-5 Djokovic

Djokovic sends a kiss to the sky in thanks as a drop shot attempt clips the top of the net and then plops over exactly where he wanted it to bring up 40-15 on serve.

Yet another easy hold for Djokovic - he's dropped just two points on serve in this set so far.
