Diane Parry needed that.
The momentum is very much with Harriet Dart but the world number 96 saves the break and frustrates her opponent by digging in under pressure to secure the hold.
Dart 7-6 (7-4) 0-0 Parry*
It's Diane Parry who gets the second set under way.
But it's all about Harriet Dart right now.
The Briton made a slow start to the match but there are no such concerns now as, full of confidence, she forces her way to an early break point.

Always like never before.
That's the slogan at this year's Wimbledon and it certainly feels apt for those giddy fans arriving at the All England Club this morning - whether they are seasoned regulars or making their SW19 debut.
The atmosphere really starts to build once you jump off the Tube here from Central London.
Championship branding covers the station, with court lines painted on the platform which also houses green and purple cushioned seats.
Plenty of punters pile off the District line here, climbing the stairs (which are lined by faces of Wimbledon greats, of course), before following the signs to the Club as they complete their tennis pilgrimage.

Dart shouted 'seriously?!' as she missed that forehand for 3-1 but her resilience in this match has been so impressive and she recovers to take a first-set lead.
The crowd loved that!

Adam: Huge first set won for Harriet Dart.
Dart 7-6 (7-4) 0-0 Parry
Harriet Dart wins her opening set at Wimbledon 2023!
From 3-0 down in the set, and 3-1 down in the tie-break, the Briton hits the front on court 12.
Great stuff.
Dart 6-6 (6-3) Parry*
Relentless stuff from Harriet Dart, who is stepping up when she needs to here.
She forces the error from Parry to set up a few set points here. Really impressive battling.
Dart 6-6 (4-3) Parry*
Harriet Dart, as she already has had to in this opening set, once again fights back to level up the tie-break at 3-3.
And now it's the Briton who hits the front, a delightful backhand receives a big reception from the crowd.

Steven: What a COMEBACK Harriet.
Lee: What a point that was from Dart to get the break back!!
*Dart 6-6 (1-3) Parry
There's a bit of a breeze around SW19 today. Parry waits for a moment before preparing to serve after losing the first point of the tie-break.
Successive winners ensure she is up and running too, before a missed Dart forehand hands Parry the early advantage.

Dart started slowly. She has got into her rhythm. She is being patient and aggressive, and she has broke down her opponent.
It’s been strong character form Harriet Dart to hold onto this match.
*Dart 6-6 (0-0) Parry
Can Harriet Dart get this set done at the first opportunity?
Another sublime pass from the Briton, flicking a forehand beyond her opponent who almost takes another fall as she attempts a last-minute change of direction, brings her to 30-30.
But Parry recovers and we're going to be treated to a tie-break to decide this opening set!

Wow, well done Harriet Dart!
That was an absolutely monster rally and Dart looked out of it a couple of times as Diane Parry gave her the run around.
But Court 12 absolutely erupted as Dart sent a stunning backhand winner across court for 5-5.
She fist pumped towards her mum who is sitting just a bit further along than me. Superb stuff.
Dart 6-5 Parry*
Harriet Dart continues to find the winners, especially on that forehand side, and she won't be stopped at the moment.
A wild shot from Parry concedes the game and now it's Dart who finds herself within touching distance of the first set, having won six of the last eight games.
Rublev 6-3 1-3 Purcell*
Michael Emons

Andrey Rublev is a set up, but 3-1 down in the second with world number 62 Max Purcell taking the break in the second game at the third attempt.
Purcell has a very effective serve, with one effort at 128mph leaving Rublev stunned as the ball flew past home. But the Australian, 40-0 up in game three, then mixes it up, trying a cheeky underarm serve but it doesn’t have the legs and hits the top of the tape and falls his side.
A more conventional ace follows for 3-0 before the seventh seed pulls one back.
Yuan 4-6 Azarenka
Solid start from two-time women's semi-finalist Victoria Azarenka on court 15.
The 19th seed, from Belarus, is another of the players returning to the tournament after last year's ban, and she's taken the first set against China's Yuan Yue.

Wow. What a point. I though Dart was out of it.
She somehow squeezes in that pass. Fabulous stuff.
*Dart 5-5 Parry
Parry dusts herself down and refocuses to save the break point as she looks to get the first set wrapped up here.
She's not going to be handed it though. Dart maintains pressure by setting up another break point.
Incredible! Dart gets the break she needed - and how. The longest rally of the match, at 24 shots, is ended by a stunning cross-court backhand.
From 3-0 down, Dart levels at 5-5. On we go!
Dart 4-5 Parry*
Another superb forehand from Diane Parry temporarily brings quiet to court 12, but Dart responds brilliantly with a terrific backhand down the line for 30-30.
Parry takes a tumble, allowing Dart to reach break point...
