    Medvedev 2-4 Fucsovics*

Marton Fucsovics hits a forehand down the line wide and faces some pressure at 30-30.

However, the Hungarian takes advantage of Daniil Medvedev's deep return position to successfully serve and volley two points in a row, the second of which brings some oohs out of the crowd.

Only Daniil Medvedev has won more matches on the ATP Tour than world number one Carlos Alcaraz this season.

Was that a 'Suuuuuue' which we just heard?

Not sure but really - really - hope it was.

Sue Barker receives the kind of reception which only tennis and television royalty deserves.

Lovely moment for the Queen of Wimbledon, who retired from her role as the BBC's lead presenter last year.

As is tradition on the opening Saturday of Wimbledon, the Royal Box on Centre Court is packed with sporting stars past and present - and they've just been introduced to the crowd.

Legendary BBC presenter Sue Barker, a French Open winner, is there, as are former Wimbledon champions Stefan Edberg, Jan Kodes and Billie Jean King, along with 1968 finalist Judy Dalton and six-time doubles champion Rosie Casals.

Elsewhere, four members of the Lionesses squad who won football’s Euro 2022 last year - Leah Williamson, Jill Scott, Fran Kirby and Beth Mead - are present, as is former England captain Gary Lineker.

Horse racing legend AP McCoy, five-time Olympic rowing gold medalist Steve Redgrave, England cricketer Sam Curran, European champion athlete Eilish McColgan and gymnasts Joe Fraser and Jessica Gadirova will enjoy a day of tennis too.

Welsh rugby legends Gareth Edwards and JPR Williams are here, so too Rugby World Cup winner Sarah Hunter and Wheelchair Rugby World Cup-winning players Tom Haliwell, Rob Hawkins and James Simpson.

There are also three members of the British women’s hockey team who won gold at Rio 2016 - Maddie Hinch, Hollie Pearne-Webb and Laura Unsworth.

Clare Balding takes to Centre Court to introduce the famous sporting faces who will occupy the Royal Box today at the All England Club, on the traditional Super Saturday.

There's a massive round of applause for former BBC presenter former French Open champion Sue Barker, who stepped down from her role in BBC's Wimbledon coverage after the 2022 tournament.

There are four Euro 2022-winning Lionesses in town too, with Beth Mead, Fran Kirby, Jill Scott and Leah Williamson all present.

But that's just the tip of the iceberg...

Some long rallies in this game with powerful, true hitting from both players which the Court One crowd are enjoying.

Daniil Medvedev is taken to deuce but Marton Fucsovics is unable to conjure a break point. The third seed keeps in touch with the world number 67.

I think the grass gives Fucsovics a little bit of zip that he needs. He will get short ball opportunities from Medvedev and he gets a lot of room. He's more than happy to do the running.

It is very stuffy under the Court One roof. Raining outside, very humid inside.

Daniil Medvedev looked in good touch in his second-round match against Adrian Mannarino, who is a decent grass-court player, but Marton Fucsovics has had some big results over the years. This might be a tricky day out for the third seed.

The first break of the match goes against the third seed. Daniil Medvedev's first service game was efficient with no long rallies. It was the opposite for his next one.

Hungarian Marton Fucsovics gets himself into some rallies and wins the game with a cross-court forehand winner from the middle of court, giving him the lead in this third round clash.

  14. Can Alcaraz get his hands on the trophy?published at 13:24 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Alcaraz v Jarry

Who will get their hands on the men's trophy at the end of the final a week tomorrow?

Carlos Alcaraz is world number one and seeded first and if the seedings are correct will face seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in the final.

Alcaraz, 20, is aiming to become the third youngest men's winner since the start of the Open Era in 1968 and has breezed through the opening two rounds, not dropping a set as he saw off Jeremy Chardy in round one and another Frenchman, Alexandre Muller, in round two.

But today is the biggest test so far for the Spaniard as he is up against 25th seed Nicolas Jarry, although clay is the Chilean's favourite surface with all three of his ATP Tour titles, including two of them in the last four months, coming on the red stuff.

A win for Alcaraz today would match his best ever run at Wimbledon after he reached the last 16 in 2022 but lost to Italian Jannik Sinner.

Alcaraz's win yesterday was his first ever on Centre Court. Will it be two in two days?

World number one and men's top seed Carlos Alcaraz opens up the action on Centre Court this Saturday afternoon in just over 10 minutes' time.

The Spaniard is yet to drop a set at this year's tournament, cruising past French veteran Jeremy Chardy in round one before coming through a slightly sterner test against Alexandre Muller 6-4 7-6 (7-2) 6-3 on Friday.

The quality of opposition increases again, on paper at least, for the 20-year-old today as he faces 25th seed Nicolas Jarry, of Chile.

Alcaraz was made to work hard for victory in the pair's only previous meeting, on the clay of Rio earlier this year, coming from behind to win 6-7 (2-7) 7-5 6-0.

  17. Deuce on Fucsovics servepublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

    Medvedev 1-0 Fucsovics*

A couple of impressive points at the net.

Daniil Medvedev and Marton Fucsovics are metres apart facing each other at the net, patting the ball to each other. Fucsovics, ranked 67 in the world, then tries to lob the former US Open champion but Medvedev springs up and swipes the ball down with a stylish volley.

At 30-40 down, Fucsovics storms into the net and plays a sumptuous volley which just lands on the line and takes the game to deuce.

  18. Super Saturday for sports stars in Royal Boxpublished at 13:19 British Summer Time 8 July 2023

It's Super Saturday at Wimbledon, the day when it is tradition for a variety of famous sporting faces to spend a day in the Royal Box at the All England Club.

A selection of high-achieving British stars will be welcomed on to Centre Court shortly before men's world number one Carlos Alcaraz and opponent Nicolas Jarry walk out for their third round match.

Last year, England men's football team manager Gareth Southgate was among those who turned up.

Who will be appearing this year, I wonder...

You can always tell when Daniil Medvedev is serving by the sound on court.

His unique grunt, followed by the ball smacking hard onto the opposite side of the court and more often than not, the ball either hits the backboard or the umpire calls the score as the opponent is unable to return the ball.

That's exactly what happened in the first game of this first set, which Medvedev wins on his serve without much drama.
