  1. Swiatek holds servepublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 2-0 Bencic*

The big problem for Bencic now as she tries to plot a route back into this set is that she has yet to find a break point on Swiatek's serve.

The top seed, a crucial lapse in the tie-break aside, has been rock solid on serve and starved her opponent of opportunities so far.

A wild return allows Swiatek to hold from 40-30 and assert herself in set two.

  2. 'Azarenka a little more creative'published at 18:40 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Azarenka 6-2 1-0 Svitolina

    Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

I think Victoria Azarenka is just a little more comfortable in uncomfortable positions on the court, a little more creative, a little more adaptable and that slice is paying off for her.

  3. Azarenka breaks againpublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Azarenka 6-2 1-0 Svitolina

Victoria Azarenka holds her hands up - she's getting the little slices of luck such as a net cord that decides the opening point of the second set.

But from there, it's the Svitolina errors that cause her own downfall, including a weak backhand into the net at break point.

    *Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 1-0 Bencic

    Sam Smith
Former British number one on BBC TV

That must have felt so good for Swiatek and the run of 24 holds for Belinda Bencic is broken.

Is that the moment where the match turns?

    *Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 1-0 Bencic

    At last for Iga Swiatek!

Her seventh break point of the match comes and goes, but she refuses to let an eighth disappear - who knows what long-lasting effect that might have had on her mentally if it had - to make the early breakthrough in set two with a ferocious forehand.

    Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 0-0 Bencic*

At the 2021 US Open, in the only previous meeting between these two, Belinda Bencic edged a first set tie-break and then wrapped up a straight-set win by taking the second 6-3.

Immediately Bencic finds herself back under pressure.

Swiatek has two more break points!

    SURELY not again...

De Minaur was shouting 'me! me! me!' for about four shots then but Boulter was having none of it. She was determined to see out that rally against Xu and got the better of her opponent in the end.

She lifts her arms as if to say 'I've got it under control'.

The crowd really enjoying this one.

  9. Game and first set - Azarenkapublished at 18:35 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Azarenka 6-2 Svitolina

Elina Svitolina held to make Victoria Azarenka serve out the set - and the Belarusian does so with the complete minimum of fuss.

Big first serve into the corner of the box and a diving Svitolina can only limply return it into the net.

Incredibly impressive opening set from the 19th seed and two-time Australian Open champion.

    Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 0-0 Bencic*

Belinda Bencic patiently waits at the back of the court for Iga Swiatek to return from her break.

She's ready to go again as she looks to cause a big upset here.

Here comes the top seed now...

This should be good. Bencic gets us back under way.

    Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) Bencic

    Annabel Croft
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 live

Swiatek actually walked just in front of our commentary box and she was glaring at her box, as if to say 'come on, what are you going to tell me because I am doing everything I can out here and it is not working'.

I thought she played a good set until her forehand started to break down.

Fortune favours the brave and Bencic was very brave in that set.

    Sonia Oxley

Well, well, well, that is the first set Swiatek has dropped here and a first Wimbledon quarter-final for the top seed is looking rather a long way away at the moment.

A lot of people going in and out of the court at the end of the set - my advice would be stay put... drinks/food/toilet can wait! This is too good to leave.

Into a deciding set on court two as Boulter and De Minaur level things up.

I wonder if the pair are actually talking about tennis at the change of ends? Or maybe more like 'shall we get a takeaway for tea?' or 'did you put the washing out?'

  14. Azarenka holdspublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Azarenka 5-1 Svitolina*

The rally of the match so far goes Victoria Azarenka's way from 40-30. Superb stuff from both players but eventually Elina Svitolina hits one a bit too hard.

Azarenka is absolutely everywhere on the court at the minute and nothing Elina Svitolina tries can beat her.

  15. Game and first set - Bencicpublished at 18:29 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 0-0 Bencic

    Who saw that coming!

    Absolutely brilliant from Bencic.

From saving six break points to running away with the tie-break.

Iga Swiatek heads off court with her notebook. Thinking to do. She hasn't been in this position this week.

  16. Tie-breakpublished at 18:27 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 6-6 (4-6) Bencic*

An ace sets up five set points for Belinda Bencic. Incredible. A deserved reward for her refusal to bow under pressure for long periods of the set.

Swiatek takes a couple of points back on serve, before rising to the occasion with a winner for 6-4.

    Getting tense.

    Swiatek 6-6 (1-5) Bencic

    Annabel Croft

Bencic is playing a fabulous match right now. She looks like she has an excellent gameplan that she is executing to perfection.

  18. Tie-breakpublished at 18:25 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 6-6 (1-5) Bencic*

Wow. Iga Swiatek just can't get going in the tie-break.

A loose forehand leaves her 4-0 down, but she's at last on the board by the fifth point.

It's a long way back from here though! Another miss. Bencic leads 5-1 at the change of ends...

  19. Postpublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Azarenka 4-1 Svitolina

    Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

Azarenka is playing clean enough and serving well. She's getting more free points off her first serve and defending the second serve.

It should be closer but she's winning the big points when it matters.

  20. Double break for Azarenkapublished at 18:24 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Azarenka 4-1 Svitolina

Is Elina Svitolina putting a bit too much pressure on herself here, considering the political situation?

The Ukrainian made it clear she desperately wants to win this match but Victoria Azarenka is hardly missing a thing here.

Superb backhand volley at the net clinches a double break and the opening set looks like it's going the way of the Belarusian.
