  1. Tie-breakpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 6-6 (0-3) Bencic

This would be quite something if Bencic, having come through six break points to get to this stage of the first set, can win the tie-break.

She's off to a great start!

Swiatek loses the first point and Bencic uses her serve to take charge, a powerful two-handed backhand putting her 3-0 up.

  2. 'Shades of Hingis in Bencic'published at 18:23 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Sam Smith
Former British number one on BBC TV

When you watch these two players, you can see the shades of Martina Hingis in the Belinda Bencic game.

With Iga Swiatek, have we seen anyone like her before? She seems to be an original.

The cheers on Centre Court suggest everyone in here agrees that a tie-break is absolutely what this wonderful set of tennis deserves.

  4. Bencic holds serve to set up tie-breakpublished at 18:20 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 6-6 (0-0) Bencic

Another ace! Bencic hadn't produced any before this 12th game. She's tearing up the script.

Shot! The 14th seed does not hesitate on a forehand volley for 40-30, and a miss from Swiatek takes us to a tie-break.

It couldn't be more tense right now, ups downs and plenty of emotions.

Bencic has been the brave player on these huge pressure moments.

    Azarenka 3-1 Svitolina*

    Martina Navratilova
Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

On paper Svitolina has the edge, but in real life Azarenka has the edge.

    Azarenka 3-1 Svitolina*

Victoria Azarenka wins that marathon game to consolidate the break of serve that already seems a long time ago.

    Swiatek 6-5 Bencic*

Are we heading for a tie-break, or can Swiatek finally end Bencic's resistance?

I'm betting on Bencic to save at least two break points but still hold. Anything less at this stage would only be disappointing.

That would have been three, but the Swiss player gets up and running with an ace.

    *Azarenka 2-1 Svitolina

A dropped ball on a toss is "nerves", says Martina Navratilova on commentary.

Victoria Azarenka provides proof of that theory by subsequently double faulting to go from 40-30 to deuce.

But Elina Svitolina fails to take the chance, only able to return into the net after a long rally earns her break point.

We've had several deuces and this game is past the 10-minute mark, no nearer a resolution.

  10. Swiatek holds servepublished at 18:15 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 6-5 Bencic*

The worst part about all of this for Bencic is how efficiently Swiatek is getting through her own service games.

The action in this first set has almost completely come in the 14th seed's games, although it has been thoroughly entertaining nonetheless.

It really is quite incredible just how Bencic keeps saving these break points. The crowd cannot believe how she got herself out of that one, that drop-shot was so close to the top of the net... she is giving fans a lot to gasp very loudly about.

Belinda Bencic seems to be striking the ball better now. I think she had to get used to this pace.

Belinda Bencic is really entertaining the crowd here with her remarkable recovery skills.

An excellent backhand winner takes her to safety and 5-5 in the first set.

  14. Bencic saves break pointspublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 5-4 Bencic*

Lives number five and six are used up by Belinda Bencic.

That is bordering on ridiculous that she has once again escaped there.

This must be starting to get frustrating for Swiatek, who is huffing and puffing but just can't find a way through. Bencic is playing some of her best stuff under pressure and eventually follows up a drop shot with a clinical backhand for deuce.

  15. Break points Swiatekpublished at 18:06 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 5-4 Bencic*

At last, Belinda Bencic take the first point on serve after hammering a couple of smashes deep into the court and eventually finding a way past the human wall that is Iga Swiatek.

The wall strikes back with a punishing return, is then gifted a point by virtue of a double fault, and sets up two more break points with an overhead of her own.

Can Bencic hang on again? She's surely running out of lives here...

  16. Watch: Rublev wins point with wonder shotpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

Andrey Rublev somehow won this to bring up match point in his five-set Centre Court epic... no wonder Alexander Bublik looked stunned.

  17. Azarenka breaks early onpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Azarenka 2-1 Svitolina

First break point of the match on Court One goes to Victoria Azarenka after a brilliant backhand follows a couple of errors from Elina Svitolina.

The Ukrainian responds with a fantastic backhand down the line of her own but Azarenka earns a second break point and Svitolina goes long. Advantage to the 19th seed.

Iga Swiatek's march towards her chair, confident that Hawk-Eye would show the ball was out and the game was hers, was shown to be a little less certain on the video replay. She was right, but only by a single blade of grass.

    Boulter/De Minaur 3-6 2-2 Vliegen/Xu

Boulter and De Minaur are a set down over on court two but it's still all smiles as the couple laugh and joke with each other between points.

Boulter rolled her eyes towards the crowd as De Minaur gave her instructions and the crowd laughed along.

    Azarenka 1-1 Svitolina*

First sign of those nerves Martina Navratilova mentioned?

From 40-0 up, Victoria Azarenka double faults and then puts a forehand wide.

However, Elina Svitolina is askew with a forehand of her own as Azarenka holds.
