  1. Swiatek holds servepublished at 18:01 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 5-4 Bencic*

Iga Swiatek's streak on serve extends to a 17th consecutive point with an ace for 30-0, but Belinda Bencic finally makes a dent in the top seed's progress with a backhand volley.

More positive play brings her to 30-30, a decent chance in the context of this match so far, but she can't force the break point.

  2. Bencic holds servepublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 4-4 Bencic

Bencic is struggling to get the first point on her serve - I'm not sure she has actually managed that yet - and it's offering Swiatek a lot of unnecessary encouragement.

She's not allowing it to faze her, though. Not one bit!

A sublime lob, her fourth straight point, completes the hold from 0-15 down. Great contest.

Both players are used to being on the big stage but neither has been there much in the past couple of years, so the nerves will be there and the hearts will be pounding.

  4. Svitolina starts with hold to lovepublished at 17:56 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Azarenka 0-1 Svitolina

Elina Svitolina might be an unseeded wildcard at this tournament but that's only due to absences through injury and motherhood.

She's a former world number three - and shows exactly why by opening with a hold to love, sealed by a delightful drop shot.

  5. Swiatek holds servepublished at 17:54 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 4-3 Bencic*

But this is so very impressive from Swiatek so far.

A third successive love hold quickly takes another game out of her opponent's reach.

It does feel like this is all about how long Bencic can continue doing her job.

  6. 'I won't shake hands' - Svitolinapublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Azarenka v Svitolina

While we never know what to expect on a tennis court, we know there's definitely one thing not to expect on Court One this evening - and that's a handshake.

Before the tournament got under way, Ukraine's Elina Svitolina vowed not to shake hands with any players from Russia or Belarus.

  7. Bencic holds servepublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 3-3 Bencic

A missed backhand initially prevents Bencic from taking charge on her serve, but the 14th seed continues to absorb the pressure being put on her admirably.

Going on the front foot, she gets up the court and Swiatek can only find the net with the angles closed. No break points to be faced this time!

  8. 'War in Ukraine provides extra motivation'published at 17:49 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

Elina Svitolina says she will be extra motivated because of the war in Ukraine when she faces Belarusian Victoria Azarenka.

The Ukrainian ex-world number three plays the two-time Grand Slam champion in an eye-catching fourth-round tie in the last match on Court One.

For Svitolina, matches against players from countries backing Russia's invasion of Ukraine are "different".

"I'm playing for my country every single match that I play and this one will be even more special," she said.

"A lot of Ukrainians will be watching, will be supporting me. I will go out there and put the fighting spirit on and just really fight for every single point.

"I just try to take it as a big motivation."

Watching these two is making me wonder how I'd get on in the doubles with my other half.

I'm going to take a guess at pretty bad - I'm always right and all my mistakes would be his fault, naturally.

Mark: If Belinda Bencic has got any sense about her, she'll make Iga Swiatek run as much as possible. That heel looks as sore as hell.

That Swiatek forehand is a rocket. There is so much racquet head speed and because of her grip she brushes up beautifully to get the spin.

    Swiatek 3-2 Bencic*

While Belinda Bencic continues to face break points, Iga Swiatek is effortlessly gliding through her service games.

Another love hold. No opportunities for Bencic, who must keep digging in.

  13. Azarenka and Svitolina next on Court Onepublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

Our final game on Court One on Sunday sees Victoria Azarenka meet Elina Svitolina for a place in the women's quarter-finals.

Of course, there's a bit more to it than that - with Svitolina being Ukrainian and Azarenka hailing from Belarus, an ally of Russia.

Svitolina says she has a "big motivation" to win the match and in tennis terms, she's going to need something to aid her cause - because 19th seed Azarenka has won all five of their previous meetings.

The Ukrainian is continuing her comeback from maternity leave after giving birth to her first child last year - and has already claimed one title, on the clay of Strasbourg.

Maybe that was what that exchange with the umpire was about at the end of the first game...

Swiatek was perhaps being very organised and told him to get some plasters ready in time for the first changeover. Planning for the changeover as meticulous as her preparations for matches.

  15. Bencic saves break point to holdpublished at 17:42 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 2-2 Bencic

Swiatek quickly sets about applying more pressure on Bencic as she pushes for an early breakthrough to assert herself on Centre.

The 22-year-old puts away a backhand on her way to 0-30, and although Bencic responds the top seed will have her fourth break point of the match here.

Can Bencic rescue herself once again? She can! Really gritty stuff from the Swiss underdog so far as the evening sun beams down.

Time to hear from Jannik Sinner, who becomes the first Italian man to reach two quarter-finals at Wimbledon:

"It's obviously very happy. Today was a very tough day. I was not feeling so great on the court but still I tried to fight for every ball. He's a very good server and he hits the forehand very well.

"I tried to win all the important points and you guys helped me so thank you for your support."

On getting annoyed by some of the line calls:

"Sorry again guys. Usually I'm quite calm but sometimes it happens. From my side there was some tough calls. It happens. I try to stay in the present moment, Sometimes players get a little bit frustrated. It is the sport."

On facing Roman Safiullin in the quarter-final:

"A very tough challenge. Every player who gets in the quarter-final deserves to be there. I will try my best, I played against him in the ATP Cup a couple of years ago.

"He hits the ball hard. It's a problem for me after tomorrow. I will try and stay relaxed. Thank you for the support, it means a lot to me."

  17. 'Swiatek felt pressure last year'published at 17:38 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 2-1 Bencic*

    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

Swiatek got to the fourth round in 2021 and last year when she came I think she felt the pressure of that long winning streak, she lost to Alize Cornet who is excellent on grass.

Her coach knew how important it was to get a tournament on grass and shorten that forehand.

  18. Swiatek holds servepublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 2-1 Bencic*

Big, booming baseline strikes from Iga Swiatek help her coast to a love hold.

After a struggle for Belinda Bencic, Swiatek makes that look so straightforward.

The top seed is then allowed time to receive some treatment for a foot issue - I think it might be a blister - having spent a while at the start of the match attempting (apparently not very successfully) to apply a plaster to the back of her foot herself.

Belinda Bencic has a lot of tape on her right arm and shoulder, in fact there is almost more tape than arm visible. Whatever is wrong doesn't seem to be bothering her too much at the moment.

  20. Bencic saves break points to holdpublished at 17:32 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 1-1 Bencic

Not many players are capable of escaping from three break points down against the relentless Iga Swiatek.

But Belinda Bencic pulls off that minor miracle, finding a handful of first serves as she takes five points on the bounce to get on the board.

That will help her settle in nicely.
