A successful day for Jamie Murray who secures his second win on court 12 this afternoon with victory in the mixed doubles alongside American Taylor Townsend.

It was a mammoth tie-break in the end that decided it but the pair lapped up the cheers and applause from the crowd.

Earlier today, Murray won in the men’s doubles alongside partner Michael Venus.

    Swiatek 1-0 Bencic*

    Sonia Oxley
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Swiatek strode straight over to her chair at the end of that first game, stopping to say something to the umpire. I've got no idea what she said to him but he is soon on the phone to someone about something. Intriguing!

  3. Break points Swiatekpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 1-0 Bencic*

Over to Belinda Bencic for the first time today, then.

She knows she can hurt Iga Swiatek, but is she going to be able to hit the ground running on Centre Court?

Tough start. The serve certainly isn't firing just yet for Bencic, who has her shoulder heavily taped up.

Two double faults contribute to gifting Swiatek three break points.

This is an uptick [in opponent for Swiatek]. Bencic has a lot of experience, she's won big titles and gone deep in majors numerous times.

  5. Swiatek holds servepublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 1-0 Bencic*

A positive start for Olympic champion Belinda Bencic, who moves to 15-30 in Iga Swiatek's opening service game after the Pole nets a forehand.

The Swiss 14th seed looks in charge of a rally at 30-30 but Swiatek gets her reward for hanging in there, a couple of mishits from Bencic settling the hold.

Always a relief to get that first game behind you, even when you're the world number one.

    Breaking

    Sinner 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 6-3 Galan

Again the serve is massive and so is the forehand that follows the return.

Daniel Elahi Galan can only loop his response long and Jannik Sinner is into the Wimbledon quarter-finals for the second successive year after a hard-fought straight-set win on Court One.

Daniel Elahi Galan pinches the opening point on the Sinner serve but two huge serves and one huge forehand lead to 30-15.

Then the Colombian's return is long and Sinner has two match points...

    Murray/Townsend 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (15-13) Zielinski/Melichar-Martinez

Jamie Murray does the double in the doubles.

After winning in the men's event alongside Michael Venus earlier, he and Taylor Townsend have just come through an epic second set tie-break 15-13 to clinch a spot in the second round.

  9. Galan holds, Sinner serves for matchpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Sinner 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 5-3 Galan

    Gallant Galan.

He saves two match points to go serve, big forehand for a hold.

He's made the third set and overall scoreline respectable and that's the least he deserves.

  10. Playpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 0-0 Bencic

Will this be the first proper test for Iga Swiatek at the All England Club this fortnight?

And if it is, how will she handle it?

After defending champion Elena Rybakina produced a statement performance last night, the world number one looks to respond.

    Away we go!

  11. Two match points savedpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Sinner 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 5-2 Galan*

Not a great drop shot from Daniel Elahi Galan and Jannik Sinner comes in to tickle a nice winner down the line for 30-40, match point.

His return goes long, though - but then a drop shot from Sinner brings up a second match point...

    Return wide this time.

    Swiatek v Bencic

    Sonia Oxley
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

Iga Swiatek and Belinda Bencic are warming up on Centre Court, which has emptied out since that Rublev five-setter.

Swiatek says she is feeling much more relaxed at Wimbledon than last year, which is where her 37-match winning streak came to an end in the third round.

She certainly looks relaxed here as she prepares to serve first.

  13. Top spot on the linepublished at 17:21 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek v Bencic

For the second consecutive Slam, Iga Swiatek's world number one ranking is on the line.

Aryna Sabalenka needs to reach the final to have any chance of overtaking Swiatek this fortnight, though.

And, should Swiatek win today, the Belarusian world number two would need to go on to win the title to dethrone her.

I’m not even ashamed to say I’m excited for this one. Who doesn’t love a bit of romance?

Let’s hope it stays as romance and not a full blown domestic on court two, anyway.

Britain’s Katie Boulter and Australian boyfriend Alex de Minaur are getting their second mixed doubles match under way. This is the first time they have competed in a competitive mixed doubles tournament together.

    Awww. Cue the love jokes.

  15. Sinner a game away from quarter-finalspublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Sinner 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 5-2 Galan*

Trouble for Galan is that Jannik Sinner's serve has grown and grown in stature throughout this match.

Ace, unreturnable serve, ace. It's just non-stop. Galan can't even get a look at a point on the Sinner serve, let alone a break.

  16. Bencic targets upsetpublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek v Bencic

In the past 10 years, only Elina Svitolina, with six, has recorded more match wins against the reigning world number one than Belinda Bencic.

A victory for the 14th seed would see her become just the second player to beat Iga Swiatek multiple times at a Grand Slam - along with Simona Halep.

In their only previous encounter at a Slam, Bencic prevailed in straight sets at the 2021 US Open, which included a 26-point first-set tie-break.

    Get the popcorn ready.

    *Sinner 7-6 (7-4) 6-4 4-2 Galan

Daniel Elahi Galan might be tiring but nothing wrong with his eyesight.

He challenges a ball called out on the sideline and it clipped the chalk. By about a blade of grass.

The Colombian keeping himself in this, just about. But it's still in Jannik Sinner's hands.

The crowd were on their feet in the last game, and then again at the conclusion of a truly superb five-setter, which lasted three hours and 17 minutes.

Two points away from glory, having been close in the third set tie-breaker, the fourth set and then the fourth set tie-breaker, Andrey Rublev reveals his inner goalkeeper as he throws himself to his right, stretches out his racquet and somehow finds a forehand winner.

A stunned Alexander Bublik can only stand motionless, barely believing what his eyes have seen, before, eventually, tapping the racquet in appreciation of a moment of brilliance.

John McEnroe, a man who knows a thing or two about sensational shots, called it one of the best shots seen at Wimbledon for years.

That brought about match point, with Rublev finally getting over the line shortly after to reach his first ever Wimbledon quarter-final. Novak Djokovic will be his opponent there, as long as the Serb gets past Hubert Hurkacz later on today.

  19. Swiatek aims for first Wimbledon quarter-finalpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek v Bencic

World number one Iga Swiatek is yet to lose a set after three matches at the All England Club this year.

The Polish 22-year-old today comes up against Swiss 14th seed Belinda Bencic next on Centre Court.

Since the start of the 2022 season, Swiatek leads the Tour for match wins (106), titles (11) and sets won by a score of 6-0 (38).

But, despite having four Grand Slams to her name, she has not yet progressed beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon.

    Will that change that today?

There's an element of inevitability about the outcome on Court One, now.

Eighth seed Jannik Sinner is racing through his service games and the gallant challenge of Daniel Elahi Galan could be nearing its end.
