One more game required for Iga Swiatek.

The top seed allows herself to release a self-motivating shout of 'Come on!' as Bencic nets at 30-30.

The 14th seed then sends a return long, challenging more in hope than expectation. Her hopes, despite her remarkable efforts, now hang by a thread.

By far the biggest test of Swiatek’s Wimbledon so far and right now it looks like she is going to overcome it.

What a turnaround from the first set.

  4. Bencic holds servepublished at 20:11 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2) 4-2 Bencic

It's all on Belinda Bencic now.

In a match in which she has repeatedly refused to bow to the intense pressure thrust upon her, can she produce one more - and by far the biggest yet - great escape.

Step one complete. A love hold. A break of serve required next.

Two hours 14 minutes. It's not been that physical but the nerves come into play. They make you tired. We'll see who wants it more here.

Stupendously good tennis on number one court now. Azarenka is refusing to throw in the towel.

What a point. Victoria Azarenka wins a huge rally, featuring a host of shots that looked like winners only to be returned.

Eventually, the Belarusian belts down a wrong-footing forehand to take it and, with it, a hold of serve.

But a stunning backhand down the line seals a hold to love for Svitolina in return.

  8. 'Impressed at how Swiatek made adjustments'published at 20:09 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

I am so impressed with the way Swiatek has been able to regroup in this match. She was not playing anywhere close to her best tennis. She really didn't have a good rhythm.

She made some adjustments and found her game.

    Oh wow.

That is not how you want to give away your serve and potentially the match.

The crowd can feel that could be a huge moment. There’s a ‘sshhhh’ from behind me as we continue on.

    Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2) 4-1 Bencic*

Iga Swiatek takes a giant stride towards the last eight.

A hold of serve from 15-30 down leaves her two games away from victory, in a contest which has seen her already face two match points.

With all the home singles players out, Svitolina feels like an honorary Brit.

The Ukrainian wildcard, who used to live in London, has spoken glowingly about the support her nation has received from the UK.

The Wimbledon fans are well behind her, too.

So many shouts of "Come on Elina!" echo around Court One it sounds like a cave.

  12. 'Svitolina came back with conviction'published at 20:07 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Martina Navratilova

A really positive game for Elina Svitolina after losing her serve. Svitolina's tendency over the years has been to go back into her shell, back away a little bit positionally as well as hitting the ball hard, but that time she came back with conviction in that game. She's slightly got the upper hand.

That was a slight disaster at the end there for Bencic. She came down in front of our commentary box and was twisting that arm to suss out where the pain is.

Swiatek, serving for a 4-1 lead, can see the quarter-finals now.

But Bencic is fighting on, burying a forehand for 15-30.

Are there more twists still to come in this epic encounter?

That has got to hurt. And she has not got long to recover now.

31 winners from Swiatek, 28 from Bencic. They really have been at the top of their games tonight.

The clock hits 8pm, over two and a half hours after we started on Centre Court.

A Bencic backhand floats magnificently down the line for 40-30, but Swiatek reaches deuce.
