    Azarenka 6-2 4-6 3-3 Svitolina*

Has that turn of events broken Elina Svitolina's spirit?

The break-back is followed by a pretty comfortable hold from Victoria Azarenka and the zip that the Ukrainian had been playing with went missing a bit there.

  2. 'I don't see that too often'published at 19:59 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV

I don't see that kind of a net cord too often. The ball bounced three times on the top of the net before it went down and Victoria Azarenka really held her nerve and hit a beautiful touch shot.

OMG. That ball almost balanced on the net.

Time froze as Court One waited to see which side it dropped.

Screams from the crowd added to the drama.

  4. Azarenka breaks backpublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Azarenka 6-2 4-6 2-3 Svitolina

Wow, you won't see a point like that very often.

An Elina Svitolina shot clips the net cord and bounces on the tape not once, not twice but three times and drops over.

But Victoria Azarenka watches it all the way and dinks it back over the net - that was break point and we're back on serve.

Swiatek battles back from a break point to save herself under relentless pressure from Bencic.

Both players have managed to work their way out of some exceptionally tight corners, and that was yet another for the world number one to handle. On we go.

We know Ukraine's Elina Svitolina is using playing against a Belarusian as extra motivation to win.

You can see it in her celebrations after every point she wins.

Svitolina is always expressive but this is next level.

Bending over double towards the grass, almost face-planting it as she screams, reiterates what this means to her.

    *Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2) 1-1 Bencic

That is sensational play. Belinda Bencic is battering the door down, Swiatek doing well to repeatedly spring across to each blow before the Olympic champion redirects a backhand perfectly on to the line to deny the top seed on game point.

  8. Postpublished at 19:51 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2) 1-1 Bencic

Swiatek moves a couple of points to the good on serve but Bencic goes on the attack and checks her progress by popping away a volley.

The 14th seed misses a good opportunity with a look at a second serve at 30-30, but she's still in with a shot here because of a double fault from Swiatek for deuce. Ouch.

  9. 'Must-win game for Azarenka'published at 19:51 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Azarenka 6-2 4-6 1-3 Svitolina*

This is a must-win game for Azarenka - just to break the momentum and try to turn it around.

And win it she did, Martina - a welcome hold to love for the 19th seed to get her on the board in this third set.

  11. Bencic holds servepublished at 19:47 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2) 1-1 Bencic

Iga Swiatek has never made it through to the last eight at the All England Club, remember. To do it this way would give her huge momentum going into the second week.

Belinda Bencic responds with a love hold of her own.

  12. Svitolina breaks servepublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Azarenka 6-2 4-6 0-2 Svitolina*

What a turnaround Court One is witnessing.

Victoria Azarenka is not helping herself, her double fault count is up to eight and that cost her this game.

  13. 'Who wants it more?'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Azarenka 6-2 4-6 0-1 Svitolina

    Martina Navratilova

Who wants it more? I don't know. They both want it pretty badly.

Who is in better shape? They're both pretty well in shape.

So I think it will just come down to who plays the bigger points better and who is a little more aggressive, a little more brave.

  14. Swiatek holds servepublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2) 1-0 Bencic*

A no-nonsense start from Iga Swiatek.

A love hold to begin her push for a comeback victory and a quarter-final spot.

Iga Swiatek will serve first in the decider.

This is a different Elina Svitolina now, she has the bit between her teeth.

Her dander, as they say, is up and she begins the deciding set with a hold.

Two hours and 14 minutes on the clock.

Two brilliant sets decided by tie-breaks.

Quality, tension, drama. We're getting it all on Centre Court tonight.

Belinda Bencic heads for a break and makes Iga Swiatek do the waiting this time.

It's all over for Briton Katie Boulter and her Aussie boyfriend Alex de Minaur.

They've had a good run and it's been seriously entertaining watching them, the crowd have loved it - joining in with the jokes and cheering for the couple.

    Lovely stuff.

  19. 'We have to talk about the two match points saved'published at 19:40 British Summer Time 9 July 2023

    *Swiatek 6-7 (4-7) 7-6 (7-2) Bencic

    Tracy Austin
Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC TV

For me Bencic starting reading things a lot better, and Swiatek's level went down.

But we have to talk about the two match points saved when her back was against the wall. Swiatek kept her cool.

What a contest. I think everyone needs a breather.
