Emma Boyd:, external Crazy that the women's downhill has a shared gold medal! Especially in a sport that is usually decided by tenths of seconds!

Aic3la:, external That Swiss rider in the men's halfpipe!! Defying gravity! Loved that replay. Can't wait for women's halfpipe.

Dominique Gisin on sharing women's downhill gold with Tina Maze: "It's such an honour. She is an amazing person and one of the best skiers ever in our sport. I shared my first World Cup victory with Anja Paerson, and I'm sure glad I'm going to share this one with Tina."

Tina Maze, joint women's downhill Olympic champion: "I have no words. This doesn't feel real. I have been dreaming about this since I was little. The first ski race I ever won in my life was a downhill so before I went up today I said to myself: 'This has to be it. I can do it,' and I just went for it."

Dominique Gisin, joint women's downhill Olympic champion: "This is incredible. I am overwhelmed with emotions. What a day. I don't think I even dreamt about this. Now that I have won I am living the dream, but this is better than dreaming."

Lara Gut, women's downhill bronze medallist: "I'm really happy. It's my first medal but I know I missed out on my gold at the finish - I made a small mistake on the bottom. It's great to be on the podium but I'm disappointed because as an athlete you always want to do your best and I know this was not my best performance. In three days (in the super G) I get another chance. I think I am going to catch them."

"Liz Nicholl also told BBC Sport: 'Three [medals] is the number below which there would be a sense of disappointment. We know we've got a good number of opportunities and [below] three is the number the sports themselves would be disappointed with.

"'So is it achievable? Yes. It's achievable because we've got skeleton still to come, we've got the curlers still in with a shout, we've got Woodsy [James Woods] still to come."

"A number of sports have recently had their budgets slashed while basketball, women's water polo and synchronised swimming all had their funding completely withdrawn following poor performances.

"In total £14m of National Lottery derived funding has been invested, via UK Sport, in athletes participating for Team GB in Sochi."

Britain's Chemmy Alcott, who recovered from a double leg break in 2010 and another fracture last year, can't stop smiling following her 19th-place finish in the women's downhill. "You get two minutes to show everyone what you have done for the last four years," she said.

"A top-20 after what I've been through is amazing justice. It was not pretty, but to finish less than two minutes out in an Olympic downhill - I'm swelling with pride."

On her prospects in Saturday's super-G, Alcott added: "This morning we were training and the guys were injecting the course so I'm feeling great for that."
