Seven gold medals will be won on Monday, though no Britons are expected to contest for medals. Among the highlights will be the chaotic dash to the finish in the men's snowboard cross.

  5. Curlingpublished at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2014

What happens if Norway and Britain secure victories on Monday? Oh boy. Wins for both Norway and Britain would give them the same record as China (which is six wins and three losses). In this instance, the head-to-head record will be used, but China, Norway and Britain would have an identical record, meaning the Draw Score Challenge (DSC) average would come into play. We'll discuss the intricacies of the DCS if and when we need to. Sunday is for watching repeats of Last of the Summer Wine and Heartbeat, not discussions on the Draw Score Challenge.

Britain's male curlers take on China at 1006 GMT on Monday and even a win will not make it certain that David Murdoch's men reach the semi-finals. The Brits need to outdo Norway, who play Denmark, to qualify outright, and a play-off on Tuesday could be required to decide the remaining semi-final places. If none of that makes sense, click here for all the qualification scenarios. We think.

Eve likes to play the offensive game. She has decided she is ready and will go firing from the first end. Russia were very tentative this morning - but if Eve has the hammer she will go right at it from the word go.

The round-robin match against Russia is the first of two crucial games for Britain's women. If they beat the Russians and Denmark on Monday are guaranteed a spot in the semi-finals.

Don't like Mondays? Nonsense. All British eyes will be on the curling tomorrow and it will be broom or bust for both the men and women as they attempt to qualify for the semi-finals. Eve Muirhead and her gang take on Russia at the unwelcome hour of 0506 GMT, but if ever there was a match to set the alarm for then this one is it.

Unfortunately, it has been a busy weekend for medical staff. On Saturday, Russian ski cross athlete Maria Komissarova required back surgery after a serious crash in training and was being transferred to Germany today for further specialist treatment.

And earlier today in the snowboard cross, Norway's Helene Olafsen sustained a serious knee injury and American Jackie Hernandez had to withdraw from the competition after being concussed during her first run.

Switzerland's Christopher Lambert was conscious when he was carried off the course on a stretcher having suffered a suspected dislocated right elbow. The 26-year-old has been taken to hospital for further treatment.

World champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White will sleep easier than most tonight after achieving a stunning personal best of 78.89 in the short dance, obliterating their previous best of 77.66. There was more good news for the American pair because they also finished above Canada's Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir, whom they share a coach with. It's set up for a humdinger of a free dance in the battle for gold on Monday.

Russia's first team eke a handsome 0.32-second lead at the mid-point of the two-man skeleton. Switzerland's first team, led by Beat Hefti who arrived in Sochi in good form, are their nearest challengers in second place while Steven Holcomb's American team are third. Britain are 23rd, 2.53 seconds behind the leaders but within catching distance of Monaco, who are 20th.
