"The start of the men's biathlon 15km mass start event at Laura biathlon course on Sunday has been delayed by one hour due to cloud and fog. The new start time is 20:00 (16:00 GMT).

Shoot-out alert - They might have edged it 36 shots to 27 but Russia have failed to get on the scoreboard in 65 minutes against Slovakia, and it comes down to a shoot-out, 24 hours after they lost to the USA in similar circumstances. Three players have already been nominated for each side.

Slovenia score late on and the United States goaltender Ryan Miller looks furious with himself as he allows Marcel Rodman's shot past him.

But it is still little consolation for Slovenia, who have had a day to forget. The United States notched up 28 shots and scored five times to continue their run of success. By contrast, the Slovenians had 18 shots but were wasteful.

Overtime alert - despite battering away at the Slovakia goal in the third period, hitting the post twice and the bar, Russia cannot make the breakthrough and, for the second day running, are taken to a five-minute extra period of four v four (one player is removed from each team) golden goal drama. Beyond that, a shoot-out looms.

"That was some skate by Olga Fatkulina. The coaches of Wust and the other competitors will be watching this time closely. Her legs nearly gave out late on and she spluttered a bit in the finishing straight, but that was impressive."

Slovenia are keeping up with the Americans in terms of shots in the third period, trailing by just four shots to six, but they cannot find the target.

Russia are piling on the pressure as they look to break the deadlock in their final Group A match and Slovakia only survive when a shot hits both the crossbar and post, but doesn't cross the line, much to the disappointment of the increasingly desperate crowd at the Bolshoy Ice Dome. The complicated qualification scenario sees all three group winners and the best-placed second team progress to the quarter-finals, with the remaining eight teams playing off for the other four quarter-final places.

Belgium's Jelena Peeters is currently the woman to beat with a time of 1:59.73 but that is all likely to change. Favourite Ireen Wust's biggest rival is her compatriot and rising star, Lotte van Beek, who beat her in the season's opening 1500m World Cup race in Calgary. The 22-year-old, appearing at her first Games, will race in the 18th and last pair so it promises to be a nerve-jangling end to this competition.

Those of you unfamiliar with the world of speed skating may not know that skaters compete in pairs and rather than race directly against each other they compete against the clock, with the highest-ranked skaters racing at the end of the competition. If you ever find yourself chatting about speed skating in the pub (it might happen) then perhaps throw this into conversation: The first Winter Olympic gold medal was won in speed skating in 1924 and is one of a handful of sports to have featured at every Winter Olympics.
