Liam Boyle: Absolutely gutted for Elise Christie.

Brian Guest: Unlucky girl. You were taken out but you gave it your all. You got the 1500 and 1000 m to go. Get back on the ice and show everyone what you can do Elise Christie.

    Mixed doubles

    Anna Thompson

Canada take gold, beating Switzerland 10-3.

While all the drama was happening a few hundred metres away at the Gangneung Ice Arena, at the Curling Centre, Canada were going about winning the first ever mixed doubles curling gold in an altogether calmer environment.

John Morris, whose day job is that of a firefighter, extinguished any threat from the Swiss to win 10-3.

He had only been paired with Kaitlyn Laws in January and they had hardly had any preparation time together but both had won Olympic titles before. And thus, Canada's hold on curling continues.

The men's and women's competitions start tomorrow with Great Britain's men taking on Switzerland and the women facing the Olympic Athletes of Russia.

Clearly the camera angles the referees see are different. It would make more sense to the people watching if we could see them. It looked to me very clearly that Kim Boutin was trying to block Elise but ultimately Choi Minjeong got the penalty. I've lost the plot completely!

I think one of the things we need to understand is that Elise Christie has had these disappointments in Sochi.

Now she has come away - fourth again - she has the 1,500m and the 1,000m still to go. One of the things she has to do is stay positive. Her team, the people back home, have to stay behind her. It's just the start of the Olympics!

The British camp have to be positive. Everything was going according to plan before the final but it's not the end of the world. We still have two distances to go.

Matthew Brennan: You skated brilliantly @Elise_Christie, external . Really really harsh on you. 3 of the 5 could’ve been penalised. Chin up and crack on to the next one. You’ll smash it! This is still your Olympics!

ShafYarra: So want to reach out & give @Elise_Christie, external a warm hug. It wasn't meant to be this time. Fingers crossed for her remaining attempts.

Elise Christie still has the 1000m and 1500m to come, with finals on Saturday and then next Thursday inked into her diary.

We just have to accept their decision. As hard as it might be. It wasn't down to Elise's own skating. She has to take positives from that - it's not like she hasn't been skating well. There is a lot of expectation on her but she has to put that behind her and move on. I'm sure she will because she is the comeback queen.

    Women's sprint classic

Sweden's Stina Nilsson edges out defending champion Maiken Caspersen Falla from Norway to claim the gold medal.

Nilsson clocked 3:03.84, with Falla 3.03 adrift after failing to keep up with her rival following an even start.

OAR's Yulia Belorukova takes the bronze in 3:07.21, 3.37 behind Nilsson.

Elise doesn't really have a filter. You always see the real Elise. It's good for people to see how much it really means to her.

She is absolutely devastated right now.

The latest replays show that it was Yara van Kerkhof who knocked the hand of Elise Christie, which seemed to send her into the barriers. Racing incident or avoidable?

    The decisions stand.

Elise Christie always said she would risk everything. She has tried her best but today wasn't her day. She still has two distances to go and they are her favourites.

I'm sure she will be able to turn things around.

Arianna Fontana has won silver so this was the last thing left for her as well. You could see the shots of her crying. This means so much to her as well.

  14. 'I can't live with this feeling'published at 12:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2018

A distraught Elise Christie on BBC One: "I was knocked over, I didn't fall on my own. It's just tough, I worked so hard. It has been taken away from me. Even in the semi final I got crashed into and ended up in lane four. It is short track and I am supposed to be prepared for this but it hurts.

"Hopefully I can come back again. I can reset. It's almost a week until my best distance. Right now I can't see living with this feeling."

She got away fast but obviously it was pretty messy. There is no room for error. There is always contact that you can't do anything about.

I feel terrible for her. She is skating so well. She will be so disappointed.

I think there was a gap when Elise Christie was going up the inside. I thought Christie was going to try and go up the inside but there was a hand from Kim Boutin.

That's the angles we have seen up here but obviously the referee has different angles.
