I'm not surprised they've decided to shake hands there, OAR have had a shocker.

But goodness me, what a start that is for Great Britain.

Huge win for Great Britainpublished at 06:54 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2018

    OAR 3-10 Great Britain

This is a massive win for Great Britain. In picking up four stones in the seventh end, they open up a seven-point lead over the OAR, who decide that is too rich for them. The Russians concede and Eve Muirhead's rink open their campaign with a victory.

There’s an awful lot of noise coming from the sheets this afternoon - compared to the men’s matches this morning, anyway. Most of it is coming from sheet D, where China lead Switzerland 4-1.

There’s a big cheer of “USA! USA! USA!” as the Americans claw back three points against Japan, who lead 8-4.

In the middle on sheet C, Sweden - Sochi silver medalists - are cruising with a 7-3 lead over Denmark.

It's been brought to my attention that it's Valentine's Day. Hopefully the future Mrs Shemilt doesn't know, or I'm going to be in trouble.

Anyway, do let us know if you're combining romance with the Winter Olympics.

The real business of the nordic combined has begun. The competitive ski jumping is under way after that and the earlier practice run were held up by high winds. This, the sole men-only event in the Games, sees the competitors undertake cross country skiing later on, with the start staggered depending on their ski jumping performance.

It was a missed opportunity by Eve Muirhead. As with many sports, curling is a game of two halves but this Great Britain team aren't going to let this lead slip away from them, that's for sure.

Yep, Muirhead keeps her powder dry. GB take a blank sixth end and hold the advantage for the seventh. Not Russia have four ends to claw back that four-point deficit.

Ah. Eve Muirhead, with virtually an open house to aim at, goes right through the back. GB may choose to blank this end no in order to retain the hammer.

Anna Sloan was once rugged up in a grey jacket, but has removed it to reveal a white T-shirt. Is that enough? It must be chilly in a vast room of four sheets of ice? Down comes the penultimate red stone, leaving one British brick in the house. GB will fancy picking up two here.

GB have the advantage of the hammer in this sixth end. On the sheet just right of centre, Lauren Gray places a yellow stone at the top of the centre of the house, only for it to be pushed aside by a red runner.

A first little slip-up there from the British team and Eve Muirhead. OAR have reduced the deficit somewhat but Great Britain are in a wonderful position here at the half-way point.

Elsewhere in the curling fancy dress genre...there's a man dressed as Santa, with a bejeweled hat on, holding an Olympic flag which says "we stand together".

Just a guess, but I think he's here for the OAR women's team?

Anna Sloan is showing off here. Whistling a yellow stone down the right of the sheet of ice, she removes two red stones from the house. The Olympic Team Formerly Known As Russia still have the opportunity to pick up points, but their advantage of the hammer may not yield a big dent in GB's lead.
