OAR, not Russia, have channeled their inner Lev Yashin by wearing all black. Sinister. If this was a heart-warming Hollywood tale of sporting triumph, the all-black garb would represent something sinister. In contrast, the GB team are in white, with Muirhead in grey. Chance, too. A Russian mistake has left the house unguarded.

Their communication and the throwing has been very good so far.

How's this for a tale of romance on this day of all days?

GB's alternate, the fifth member of the squad, Kelly Schafer has a helluva story to tell.

While competing at the 2010 World Championships in Swift Current, Canada, Schafer (then Kelly Wood) met the local mayor, who gave a speech at the opening ceremony.

Three years later, they married at a Scottish castle and now they live in Canada.

This looks like a great start for GB. Already set for two stones before they play the hammer, they have a chance for a third point with Muirhead's final effort...

Vicki Adams, GB's second, is clearly multi-skilled. As she slides down the ice, she holds a complete conversation with Muirhead, who is standing at the bottom of the rink. Most mortals wouldn't be able to slide, let alone talk tactics on the way down. Both teams are struggling with the weight in this first end.

Nothing less than a gold medal will be what our Great Britain girls are looking for here.

OAR certainly won't be any pushovers here but, on paper, Great Britain should have control of this match. They have left no stone unturned in preparation for this Olympic championship.

Eve Muirhead may only be 27, but this is the third time she has led a team to the Winter Olympics. GB are the European champions and won bronze at the 2017 World Championships.

A tricky start for the British quartet but they'll be hoping they can do exactly what the men's team managed to do earlier today and win their first game.

It's an experienced team and it's a third Olympic games for skip Eve Muirhead. They came away with a medal four years ago and there is some expectation they can at least match that this time around - if not from anyone else but themselves.

    OAR v Great Britain

Remember, the idea is to get your stones as close to the centre of the house as possible. Points are scored when you manage to get your stones closer to the centre than those of your opponent. Great Britain have the hammer, or final stone, in this first end.

The traditional bagpipe entrance music has been played which means Eve Muirhead and her European title-winning rink are about to begin their Olympic curling campaign against the OAR.

Victoria Moiseeva’s rink are also former European champions and upset Anna Sidorova’s team at the national trials to book their place at the Games.

Muirhead led the GB women's team to bronze at Sochi with the final stone of the match against Switzerland.

Her brothers Thomas and Glen got off to a winning start in Pyeongchang earlier today as part of the men's against the Swiss. Let's see if the women can do the same in their round-robin opener.

That pesky wind is at it again, this time delaying the practice ski jumping round in the nordic combined.

I suppose, if the winds are high, the last thing you want to be doing is heading down a massive slope, hurling yourself into the air and hoping to land on nothing more than a pair of skis.

“Overall, super stoked” shouts an athlete when asked about the Olympic slopestyle course; with GB’s James Woods chipping in with - “the jumps are sick.”

A group of athletes and coaches are asking for a few approaches to jumps and landing areas following them to be looked at and potentially tweaked but as the course designer received a round of applause, I think it’s fair to say they’re happy with the features and design.

“The only problem today was the wind,” another athlete adds.

The officials are noting down all the feedback which is a good sign - they want to avoid any of the controversy which plagued the training days leading into Sochi 2014.

Big multi-nation debrief taking place at the bottom of the Pyeongchang Olympic slopestyle course after the first morning of official training.

They still have several days to go before women’s qualification begins on Saturday and men’s on Sunday, but I think it’s fair to say that after day one of training - the athletes have more questions than answers.
