Frontside 1260, backside 1260. Height. Ah, little stumble, hand down.

He tries to claim it, but that might not be an improvement on his first-run score.

We have another casualty. Japan's Raibu Katayama was touching the sky, but it looks like he's bashed his jaw on his own knee in a heavy landing. He ends his routine by snatching off his helmet, but it looks like he'll be OK.

There's a war cry coming from one of the members of the Italian team on sheet B.

I have no idea what he was shouting about, but it sounded serious.

The Italians were holding Canada at 2-2, but the world and Olympic champions have taken two more points to lead at the end of the eighth end.

Elsewhere, Sweden lead 8-3 against Denmark, the USA are 10-7 ahead against South Korea and Switzerland still lead 4-3 against GB. Team Smith have the hammer in the penultimate end.

Nick raises a point that I'm quite interested in.

I've always wondered how many riders see snowboarding as a competitive pursuit and how many of them see it as a lifestyle.

  15. Why legend White divides opinionpublished at 02:16 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2018

    Nick Hope
    BBC Sport in Pyeongchang

Shaun White - the greatest but not the most popular.

His ability is unquestionable, but the American is a highly divisive figure in the sport.

The 31-year-old two-time Olympic champion heralds from an era before halfpipe was in the Olympics and when the X Games was the undisputed crown jewel event.

Back then - pre Turin 2006 - freestylers didn’t consider themselves to be traditional ‘athletes’ the sport was for show, entertainment and, crucially, fun.

White changed that. He was the first to go out into competition and say "I want to win, I want to be the best".

Others have followed, but he set that path and some in the sport resent his influence and the direction freestyle has taken after its inclusion in the Olympics.

We're back under way, but the energy has been sucked from the contest. At the end of the first run, when James and White were ripping it up, the crowd was delirious. Now, it's a more sombre affair.

Good lord. Japan's Yuto Totsuka has taken a horrific bump here. He's lying prone near the top of the halfpipe. Medics have come down the course to treat him and it looks like he may have to leave on a stretcher.

After the excitement of what Shaun White and Scotty James produced, this is a reminder of how dangerous this sport it.
