Curling: Women's round robin Great Britain 4-7 USA

    Anna Thompson
    BBC Sport in Pyeongchang

Great Britain's women curlers lost their second match at the Winter Olympics, going down 7-4 to USA.

Anna Sloan has been speaking about the defeat.

She said: "That was a bit of a scrappy game from us. They managed the ice conditions better and we need to debrief and come back firing now.

"We struggled the whole way through, we just were not quite getting there. It’s a long week and they got the better of us in a game of inches.

"The ice is good and consistent but we need to get on top of it as a team."

He finished 11th in his seeding run and the knockout phase starts at 0430 GMT.

After having to endure extreme temperatures over the last week today is like spring. Beautiful sunshine and it's only -1C - and most importantly there's no wind!

    Skeleton: Men's heat two

    Caroline Chapman
    BBC Sport in Pyeongchang

The British media have been very interested in speaking to New Zealand's Rhys Thornbury after his second heat, where he's currently placed eighth.

Why? He's sort-of one of ours.

Thornbury is a weapons technician in the RAF, based at Brize Norton in Oxfordshire. He only started in skeleton in 2011, having gained a scholarship through the British forces.

"I haven't been doing it as long as these other guys so their experience shows," said the 28-year-old, who has dual New Zealand-British citizenship.

"I watched the 2014 Games on the TV. To be here in 2018 and fighting for top 10, it feels great. A lot of my air force colleagues have come out to cheer and it really spurs me on."

The downhill is brilliant but brutal

So much speed, power and jeopardy has helped make men’s downhill the traditional ‘blue riband’ Olympic event.

It could be argued that freestyle sports have taken the focus away from the iconic competition but is still among the most dramatic and exciting events to watch.

Unlike earlier in the week - when high winds forced a postponement - the skies are clear and the world’s best are putting on a show early on for the impressive crowd.
