The men's downhill will also take place on day six after it was postponed from Sunday. Although there is no British interest, the traditional 'blue riband' event of the Games always proves a fascinating watch.

Matthias Mayer of Austria is the defending champion, but Switzerland's Beat Feuz took the most recent world title and Norwegian veteran Aksel Lund Svindal is looking to end his Olympic career back on the podium.

Curling: Women's round robin Great Britain 4-5 USA (after nine ends)

High-fives from the American team as they have retaken the lead at 5-4 with only one end to go in the women's curling.

GB started with a comfortable 10-3 win over the Olympic Athletes From Russia Team yesterday but Eve Muirhead and her team have a lot of work to do if they are to win this one.

Alpine skiing: Ladies' giant slalom run one

Ouch. We have had eight women who have failed to finish their first run in the ladies' giant slalom so far, including Great Britain's Alex Tilley.

One of those to crash out is Switzerland's Lara Gut, who loses control, drifts wide and ploughs through a collection of photographers on the side of the course. It looks a painful one for everyone concerned. Hopefully no damage is done to anyone.

Each and every one of the curling stones thrown at this Winter Olympics is from the same small Scottish town.

They are all supplied by Kays - a company based in Mauchline, 30 miles south of Glasgow.

Kays extracts Blue Hone granite which is only found on Ailsa Craig - an uninhabited island 16km off the western coast of Scotland, - to build the stones.

They apparently retail at £470 a pop.

I'm quite surprised about how big the gaps are between the Korean and everyone else. It's going to be a real fight.

In run two, they've got to nail the exit of corner nine and then keep it together for the bottom part of the track.

    A geo-political breakthrough?

Sadly not. For a moment it seemed as if North Korean leader Kim Jong Un had put all that nuclear weapon-waving to one side and turned up to the ice hockey match between the combined Korea team and Japan in jovial mood.

Instead it turned out to be an Australian comedian and impersonator called Howard X.

The North Korean cheerleaders' minders were not fooled. They roughly lead Mr X away from in front for the mini pep rally.

"South Korea is a democracy, it has freedom of speech and it is very important to remind the world not to let North Korea hijack these games," X told Australian newspaper Daily Telegraph.

Kieren Huddy: Well done Jerry, two Brits in the 10! And stopped before the loft insulation!

James Stevenson: I predicted top four for Dom Parsons and that’s exactly what he got. Hopefully he stays there. That would be a great start.
