I was desperately holding off saying “good clean run” to those Brits around me, for fear of jinxing Tyler Harding, but sadly in the end it didn’t matter.

The 21-year-old was going so well until the last phase of the course and after crashing out will need a big run to make the top-12 and qualify for the final via his second run.

As it stands a score of 72.60 would be enough for 12th, but I think that score will rise to towards mid 70’s at least.

That top 12 at the moment will most definitely change. From 13th place down to the bottom, there are some big names who can upset the proceedings.

    The conditions are pretty perfect.

It seems a long time ago that James Woods pushed out of the gate for his first run in this qualifying competition.

At the end of it all, he still sits in the top three and can feel comfortable about taking a place in the final.

Tyler Harding, though, as much to do.

Tyler Harding is a bundle of energy and fun.

He is stoked to be here at his first Olympics. Like James Woods, he is a rail wizard.

He couldn't quite put it down. That is a lovely, creative run though. It looked to be shaping up nicely.

He's as loose as a village golf bag! We love him and he's done so well to qualify for this event.

Tyler Harding is in the snow after his first jump, suffering the indignity of losing a ski and having to hop after it.

His Olympic hopes will all be on the second run.

Looking good on the rails. Backwards, a grind.

The score to get into the top 12 is not that high. 70 or more would do the trick.

    Harding, hug from the coach.

    Here he goes...

James Woods still lies in third place in this qualifying competition.

Tyler Harding, the 21-year-old from Halifax, is the next man to go.

The judges are looking for excuses now. It's getting very tight at the top of the leaderboard now and they don't want to put themselves in a difficult situation.

The judges aren't scoring individual features so we don't get to see how much weight they are putting on that. It's more about overall impression.

I first met Tyler Harding when he was just 15 - at the Youth Olympics in 2012 and can honestly say he’s one of the most upbeat and fun athletes on the Team GB squad to have chat with.

The now 21-year-old had a “brutal” first training run on the course earlier in the week - landing on his head more than once - but laughed it off and still talked about how “exciting” the challenge was and is.

“There are so many options on this course which is exactly what we want and although that makes it hard to decide what is the best route to take it’s genuinely one of the best, if not the best, course I’ve ever seen,” he tells me.

This is a big old field taking part in qualifying in the men's slopestyle.

GB's second skier, Tyler Harding, is 28th to go and still has about seven or eight men ahead of him.

Then, it will be a quick turnaround to James Woods, who is third to go in the second run.

Graham Bell took James Woods into a snow dome to do some gate training. He'd never done any in his life.

Afterwards, Graham said 'give me two years with that kid and I'll give you a World Cup slalom skier'.

He was one of the most naturally gifted Graham had ever seen.

Andri Ragettli skis to the rule book. He gets things done. He's ticking boxes but there's not much in the way of style or personal touches.

But he is an absolute boss on skis.
