Elana Meyers Taylor, 33, must still be rueing a crucial mistake on her final run in Sochi, when a skid on the exit of the second corner may have cost her gold. She wrote in a blog a few days later: “Every night, I’m haunted by that last run. I haven’t slept much since it happened. I replay the skids so vividly in my head… so how does it feel to feel like you choked in front of the whole world? How does it feel to have your lifelong dream slip away literally from your fingertips? It sucks.” But she added: “I won’t forget the pain I feel right now but if I am fortunate enough to win a gold medal, I know it will be because of this moment.”
On her first run the American takes the lead with a track record of 50.52.
