Dave ‘the Rocket’ Ryding bids for Britain’s first-ever alpine skiing medal (excluding the bronze Alan Baxter was controversially stripped of in 2002), on Thursday.
However, whilst he’s been dubbed a pre-Olympic medal prospect his form this season has been some distance short of that which saw him claim a historic World Cup silver last year.
“I’ve made mistakes, costly ones, this year and maybe it’s the kick up the backside I needed,” he tells me.
“It’s not my ideal piste, but there aren’t many that are,” Ryding jokes. “The goal is top-10, but I know that on my day I’m capable of much more.”
