It's been a really odd first run. I do think we have a Su Yiming defibrillator and it is going to send a shockwave through the contest.

Earlier, we told you Australian mixed doubles curlers Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt were set to leave China, after Tahli tested positive for Covid on Saturday.

However, The Australian Olympic Committee has just announced the pair have been given permission from Chinese public health authorities to continue competing under close contact rules, following a meeting of the Medical Expert Panel.

Their match against Switzerland at 06:05 GMT will now take place as scheduled.

    Men's slopestyle qualifying

Sweden's Niklas Mattsson is the last man to take his first run, before we do it all again at the Genting Snow Park.

He goes flying off the rail, though, and will be yet another desperate to produce on their second run to have a shot at the final.

Ripping the triple, absolutely huge statement from Su Yiming.

This is going to be a big big score - he moves into first place!

Game on! We said there were heavy hitters at the bottom of this start list!

  5. Su Yiming takes leadpublished at 05:35 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2022

    Men's slopestyle qualifying

China's 17-year-old Su Yiming drops next.

What can he produce for the host nation?

Oh it's very, very good. Hands in the air to finish, it's a rare clean run in this men's slopestyle qualifying, but he executes it with real style too.

There it is! Straight into the lead with a 86.80.

'Oh my god!' he shouts, among other things amid the excitement... We'll let him off. It's quite a big moment after all.

What is going on with them. No-one seems to be able to find the rhythm yet.

It's almost like the adrenaline isn't building between the riders.

I can't believe were going to see this many riders drop on their second runs.

Sven Thorgren also falls short with his opener. This is shaping up to be a real scrap for qualification.

Japan's Takeru Otsuka is the latest to tumble. How about his compatriot, Ruki Tobita? Nope he suffers the same fate. It's tough out there for the guys.

Sven Thorgren has been on every single podium there is to be on.

    He is the snowboarder's snowboarder.

Six riders to go in this first run, as Australia's Matthew Cox also leaves himself with a big job to do on his second attempt.

American Sean FitzSimons is still sitting nicely at the top of the leaderboard.

Chris Corning is just solid muscle. he disappeared in a puff of snow there. We needed to see the other side of that landing to see what the judges will make of it.

    Men's slopestyle qualifying

It's looking really good for Chris Corning until he just loses a landing, disappearing in a cloud of smoke, to leave him just outside the qualifying spots.

Switzerland's Jonas Boesiger places directly behind Corning following a mistake coming off the rails.

Technically it is not the hardest run that we will see, but it was immaculate.

The timing on the take-offs from Emiliano Lauzi. The shoulder, hips and toe-edge are absolutely in line.

Italian Emiliano Lauzi is the latest rider to put down a solid run, leaping into third place with a 71.71.

50.36 is the marker for a qualification place at the moment after some really nice runs in the last few minutes. This really could go off given how many are already relying on strong second runs here.

    Men's downhill cancelled for today

    Anna Thompson
    BBC Sport in Beijing

The men's downhill will not take place on Sunday because of the windy conditions at the Yanqing National Alpine Centre .

A statement said: "Due to the present weather situation with the wind gust and the updated forecast - the jury together with the organiser have decided in the best interest of safety and fairness for the racers to delay todays men's Olympic downhill to another day."

Not sure when it will be run - date and start time still to be confirmed.

Sean Fitzsimons paying back the USA selectors for picking him. Pretty sure he is going to be joining Red Gerard in the final.

That's a statement run from American Sean FitzSimons!

Really clean and really well executed by the 21-year-old.

And he's rewarded with a new leading score of 78.76. Superb.

We're starting to get some momentum now.

Staale Sandbech follows up that effort by Max Parrott with a fine first run of his own. In fact, the Norwegian is given EXACTLY the same score as Parrott for joint-third.

Halfway through the first runs and qualification is wide open.

Strictly business from Max Parrot. He is the consummate competitor.
