Oooh, Canada's Ted-Jan Bloemen, silver medallist in 2018, moved into lead early in his run but faded badly and ends up down in eighth place.

That means Patrick Roest is guaranteed a medal, but will it be gold?

The Dutchman still leads with just one pair to go - but here is Nils van der Poel...

Japan very much holding on to their 1-0 lead at the end of the second period. China knocking on the door but as yet no way through a sea of white jerseys.

This is a cracking match and you can watch the action unfold over on the red button. Well, once play resumes in a few mins anyway!

I think it's fair to say that China's Group B match against Japan has been a competitive/combative affair so far. Then again when isn't it physical in ice hockey?

Japan are sitting pretty at the top of the group after winning their opening two matches, while China have won one and lost one so far.

That said, you'd still expect both these sides to advance to the last eight.

"It was a battle, it is one of the most nuts races there has been," he said.

"The gaps were massive and it is one of the hardest races I've done."

He added that it was "absolutely wild" how quick winner Alexander Bolshunov went.
