Four of the 20 skaters down, and Sven Kramer sits in the gold medal position, with Felix Rjhnen of Germany second and American Emery Lehman third.

A long, long way to go though!

    Men's 5,000m

Let's head over to the National Speed Skating Oval, where the men's 5,000m final has begun.

Three-time Olympic champion Sven Kramer was in the first pair, setting a time of 6:17.04.

If he wins again, he'll join an exclusive group of people (currently six) who have won four Olympic gold medals in the same individual event, having already said he will retire later in 2022.

He now faces a nervous wait to see if that time will be good enough.

    Mixed doubles

It has been quite the morning for the Australian mixed doubles curling team.

A few hours ago they thought they were going home when Tahli Gill tested positive for Covid. However, they were then cleared to return when a medical panel analysed her results and determined they fell into an acceptable range.

They took advantage of that reprieve to beat Switzerland 9-6 for their first victory of the competition.

Elsewhere, Italy, who have already qualified, beat China 8-4 to maintain their unbeaten start, while Norway beat Sweden 6-2 and Canada beat the Czech Republic 7-5.

GB's Jen Dodds and Bruce Mouat, who beat China 6-5 earlier, take on Norway at 12:05 GMT knowing a win will secure their place in the semi-finals.

This is the kind of event that is won by seconds. Last year it was eight seconds and that was an outlier.

Bolshunov could not have dreamed for this to have gone any better.

Here comes Denis Spitsov to take the silver, with Alexander Bolshunov giving him a huge hug as he crosses the line.

It's a brilliant performance from Finland's Iivo Niskanen to take bronze. The top three were way clear of the rest of the field.

Meanwhile, GB's Andrew Musgrave looks on course for 15th place.

Ooh, Denis Spitsov has fallen. No need to panic though. He quickly gets up and looks OK.

Difficult to see what happened there., He perhaps just lost concentration after passing through the drinks station.

He still has a comfortable lead over Iivo Niskanen so his silver medal does not look under threat - for now.

Alexander Bolshunov won four medals at Pyeongchang 2018, but there was no gold among them.

His medal collection is about to get a whole lot shinier. His lead is now more than a minute with less than 4km to go.

Don't forget Alexander Bolshunov fell earlier in this race - he now leads by one minute and six seconds with one circuit remaining.

Denis Spitsov looks certain to make it a Russian Olympic Committee one-two, with Finland's Iivo Niskanen battling to hold on to the bronze medal position.
