Canada's Steven Dubois is fast out of the traps but back roars China's Dajing Wu - the defending Olympic champion.

The screams from the home fans tell us that.

All five skaters are close together - you could throw a blanket over them all.

And it is gold for France's Quentin Fillon Maillet!

What a performance to seal his second gold of the Games. He barely has enough energy left to celebrate as he crosses the line.

Norway's Tarjei Boe comes through for the silver 28 seconds later, ahead of Russian Eduard Latypov, who managed to hold off Italian Lukas Hofer in the closing stages.

A really tough one to take for Johannes Thingnes Boe, who began the pursuit in first place, as he finishes in fifth.

    Wow, Finland have done it!

They score in the third minute of overtime to beat Sweden 4-3 after being 3-0 down at the start of the third period.

Harri Pesonen is the hero as Finland head to straight to the quarter-finals. Sweden will have to wait to see if they can claim the best runner-up spot or they will go into the play-offs.

The Finland players stream onto the ice to celebrate as Sweden can't believe what has happened.

It's blink-and-you-miss-it stuff in this 500m speed skating competition.

All four quarter-finals are done and we won't have long to wait for the semi-finals.

China's Ren Ziwei is indeed out, as is Shaolin Liu. Konstantin Ivliev is the fastest through.

Can Johannes Thingnes Boe wipe that second shoot from his memory?

The Norwegian tries to steady himself in the wind and snow as Quentin Fillon Maillet skis into view... But it gets worse.

THREE more misses for Boe, followed by another perfect shoot from Fillon Maillet which takes the Frenchman into first place!

With those errors, Boe slides down into fifth spot, below brother Tarjei, with Russian Eduard Latypov in second and Italian Lukas Hofer third.

There's quite a battle on now for those medals with one visit to the shooting range remaining.

The Capital Indoor Stadium, the home of the short track events, must be one of the rowdiest venues at the Games, especially with Chinese athletes involved.

Wu Dajing, one of the big favourites, wins his quarter-final but Shaolin Liu, racing for Hungary and one of those we built up earlier, may well be heading out.

That allows Russian Eduard Latypov to move into third.
