Russians welcome Valieva decisionpublished at 10:27 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2022
While the decision to clear 15-year-old Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva to compete again in Beijing after a failed drugs test has been widely criticised, the move has been welcomed in her homeland.
"I'm very happy for Valieva and glad that common sense and justice triumphed," said Russian Figure Skating Federation president Alexander Gorshkov.
The Russian Olympic Committee said: "We do not know how many tears and what moral strength this whole crazy situation has cost Kamila.
"But what we know for sure and what we can definitely do is cheer for her tomorrow, then on Thursday with all the strength of our energy."
Valieva will take part in the individual event, which starts with the short programme from 10:00 GMT on Tuesday (she is scheduled to be 26th of 30 starters) and concludes with the free skate on Thursday.
