    Snowboard men's big air qualification

Flinging yourself 50 feet into the air and seemingly defying the laws of physics is not for the faint hearted. And it brings a risk.

Canada's Sebastien Toutant lands heavily and the medical staff are quickly tending to him. After a few minutes on the snow, he is able to climb back to his feet and gingerly walk off.

Similarly, there is another worrying moment for Switzerland's Jonas Bosiger. He's up quicker than Toutant and seems to have a wry smile on his face.

Probably because he's just heard the DJ press play on Chumbawamba's 'Tubthumping' when it is clear the Swiss is unhurt.

"I'll get knocked down, but I'll get up again..."

Fine margins. Had Bruce Mouat's penultimate stone managed to take out a third red, GB would have been in a position to blank the end and keep the hammer in the next.

Instead, it slipped just by and Switzerland have forced just one.

Anyway, in the action which really matters, Canada's Max Parrot still leads the way after three runs.

Can Mark McMorris usurp him? He's the other Canadian who had a pop at his team-mate after the slopestyle final (see 07:10am entry).

A slight mistake from McMorris means he doesn't improve on his previous two runs. He will qualify for the final, but down in eighth place.

    Snowboard men's big air qualification

One of the best bits of the snowboarding so far - other than the action, of course - has been the DJ pumping out 'We No Speak Americano' between runs.

You know the one. The fast electro swing tune used in that scene from The Inbetweeners film.

Half expecting to see Neil shimmying across the snow, doing 'The Robot' and 'The Sprinkler'...

GB skip Bruce Mouat with a rare miss.

It was a steal for Switzerland, but GB have the hammer back. This game is going to go the distance.

Dear me - that's a real mistake from Bruce Mouat - it seemed as though he had plenty of room.

Switzerland steal one and all of a sudden we are tied up.

GB will carry the hammer but we won't have it in the even ends and we could end up with a situation where Switzerland have it in the final end.

As you'll know given you've scattered rose petals all over the kitchen floor ready for the morning, it's Valentine's Day.

We've cobbled together a few athletes who are actually couples at the Games for you here but one duo have shown their bond quite strongly.

When American Mikaela Shiffrin crashed a couple of times to make a dog's dinner of the women's slalom and giant slalom early in the Games, her partner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde shared a picture of her looking distraught on Instagram and wrote: "When you look at this picture you can make up so many statements, meanings and thoughts. Most of you probably look at it saying: 'she has lost it', 'she can’t handle the pressure' or 'what happened?'... Which makes me frustrated, because all I see is a top athlete doing what a top athlete does!

"It’s a part of the game and it happens. The pressure we all put on individuals in the sports are enormous, so let’s give the same amount of support back.. It’s all about the balance and we are just normal human beings!! I love you Kaela."

That's good boyfriending folks and Shiffrin then posted: "My hope for every human is that they find another human who finds a way to love, understand, and heal them in the way Aleksander Kilde has done and continues to for me."

    Men's snowboard big air qualification

    Katie Falkingham

Max Parrot's slopestyle gold last week was controversial to say the least, when the judging of his second run was heavily criticised after he seemed to miss a key element of a jump. Parrot later admitted he had missed a grab.

His Canadian team-mate and bronze medallist Mark McMorris later had to apologise after claiming he'd had "the run of the day" in the heat of the moment afterwards.

  16. Parrot's incredible resurgence...published at 07:04 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2022

    Men's snowboard big air

Over at the men's snowboard big air qualification, Canada's slopestyle Olympic champion Max Parrot leads the way with a score of 164.75 from his first two runs. Athletes get three and their best two scores are combined. A dozen from this field of around 30 will reach the final.

Parrot, ninth in big air in 2018, was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma cancer in December 2018.

He completed the last of 12 chemotherapy treatments in late June 2019.

When he returned to competition, he won the X Games Norway 2019 big air, the Olympic test event in Beijing, the big air gold at the X Games Aspen in 2020, then slopestyle gold and big air silver at X Games Norway 2020.

Eagle-eyed curling watchers might notice there are no flashing lights on the stones anymore.

There were a few hiccups with the electronic handles (run out of batteries, perhaps?) and so they've been replaced.

It means it's down to the curlers to call themselves out if they 'hog' a stone - i.e. Fail to release it before the big red line.

    BBC Sport

Kirsty Muir speaks to BBC Sport after qualifying for the women's Freeski slopestyle final tomorrow:

"I feel like I definitely had a few mistakes in the first run and not as good on my second but hoping to clean everything up for tomorrow."

What improvements are you looking to make?

"My first rail - got to get a better trick. I was aiming for it the first run but just couldn't get the grip to do it.

"And then grabs and just cleaning up the jumps for sure."
