Mixture of speed, stamina, skill and ability to negotiate traffic.

It's going to get very very busy down there on the ice.

Remarkably we haven't had a fall yet.

After a couple of laps the skaters tag in a team-mate for a breather and each time I wince thinking there's going to be a pile-up.

South Korea are on the front in the early stages. If China make a move it could get very, very rowdy inside the arena.

    35 laps to go.

And we're off in a final that could be absolute mayhem.

Each team is made up of four skaters meaning there will be 20 on the ice at the same time. Good luck with that.

Only one skater from each team are actually racing at once, with the others whirling around the middle of the track until they are tagged into action by their team-mate.

    I'll do my best...

    • Russian Olympic Committee
    • Canada
    • Italy
    • China

Team GB's Dave Ryding speaking to BBC TV after finishing 13th in the slalom: "A little bit disappointing, you always want a little bit more from yourself I just didn't have my A-game today for whatever reason. I put in the finish everything I had but c'est le vie.

"After the first run I knew I had done enough in the first section, I was second at the split. Then I made that mistake which isn't normally like me but these things happen and I just went for it again on the second run. It was all I had and unfortunately sometimes you come up short like today but i'll knuckle down for the rest of the season.

"[Plan for rest of season] Get some sleep! But four more world cups starting next week already so get to the end of the season and see if we can stay in the hunt for the overall world cup. After that I think I might have bought myself another season from my fiancee, so get back into the training mode at some point in the summer."

    What a performance.

China'a Qi Guangpu lands a monster 129.00 jump. That is immaculate, untouchable!

It is another lap of maximum effort. Choi was annoyed. You don't see that often. You think it is easy to count 13.5 laps but with all of the tactics it is easy not to know.

Netherlands' Suzanne Schulting already has gold in the 1,000m, gold in the 3,000m relay and silver in 500m to her name at these Games.

There is plenty of argy-bargy in her heat, one skater tumbling out across the ice.

The world champ hits the front to stay out of trouble and wins comfortably.

Defending champion Oleksandr Abramenko is there, as is American Christopher Lillis and Swiss wonderkid Pirmin Werner.

Only one of the two Chinese hopes made the cut. Qi Guangpu is still in contention. Pyeongchang silver medallist Jia Zongyang is done for the day.
