One goal separates these two teams. There hasn’t been too much between Finland and Slovakia.

But Finland are pushing pretty hard at what could be another shot at gold.

You sense Slovakia are not too far away.

Men's ice hockey semi-final - Finland 1-0 Slovakia (first period)

Slovakia have had a lot of possession and been knocking on the Finland door, but it's Finland who take the lead as Sakari Manninen keeps his composure to slide the puck under the leg of Slovakia goaltender Patrik Rybar.

That's Manninen's fourth goal of the tournament.

Finland have never won gold in the men's ice hockey at a Winter Olympics, yet normally find themselves in the latter stages of the competitions.

They've now reached the semi-finals in seven of the past 10 Games, reaching the 1988 and 2006 finals, and collecting bronze medals in 2014, 2010, 1998 and 1994.

In 2010, they beat Slovakia 5-3 in the bronze medal match.

Women’s freeski halfpipe champion Eileen Gu speaking to BBC TV: "I felt a lot of pressure. I knew I was expected to win but that being said, there are so many amazing women and so many girls who are competitive, who are pushing the sport and constantly doing their best.

"So nothing is a given, I did not come into this thinking I was 100% going to win. Of course that was my goal but I did not take it for granted. I feel fantastic right now.

"It’s all in your head, especially in competition. I’ve done so much work in that regard and I feel like my biggest asset is my brain so being able to use that to my advantage has been incredibly beneficial throughout the entire Games.

"My mum and I, because I spend so much time with her, talking to her is almost like talking to myself. She knows me well enough to know what I need to hear in that moment. Today I was feeling pretty good but I didn’t have a great practice, so she was just reassuring me and that’s all I needed to hear."

  13. 'She shouldn't be out there' - BBC pundits discuss Kamila Valieva displaypublished at 03:45 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2022

Women's figure skating - free skate

Watch as BBC Sport's commentators Kat Downes and Robin Cousins and pundits Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean discuss the strain placed upon Russian Olympic Committee figure skater Kamila Valieva following her display in the free skate at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

  14. Valieva was 'disturbing to watch' - Bachpublished at 03:41 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2022

IOC president Thomas Bach has spoken very strongly about Kamila Valieva and her entourage after her agonising performance on Thursday, when she came fourth in the women's figure skating final.

Valieva, 15, has been in the spotlight after a court ruled she could compete in Beijing following a failed drugs test and she sobbed while awaiting the score after she had been leading going into the free skate.

Bach said: "I was very, very disturbed yesterday when I watched the competition on TV. First in her performance, how high the pressure on her must have been. I know from my athlete time a little bit about pressure but this pressure is beyond my imagination.

"In particular for a girl of 15, to see her struggling, seeing how she tries to compose herself again, how she tries to finish her programme, you could in every movement feel this is immense mental stress and maybe she would have preferred just to leave the ice and try to leave this story behind her."

He was also concerned about how her entourage reacted.

"When I afterwards saw how she was received by her closest entourage with what appeared to be a tremendous coldness, it was chilling to see this," added Bach.

"Rather than giving her comfort, rather than to try to help her, you could feel this chilling atmosphere, this distance and if you were interpreting the body language of them, it got even worse because this was even some kind of dismissive gestures I saw there on TV."

Team GB's Atkin, 19, qualified in fourth for the final but finished ninth after scoring 73.25 in her final run.

China's 18-year-old 'snow princess' Gu won with 95.25 to add to her big air gold and slopestyle silver.

Defending champion Cassie Sharpe won silver, with Rachael Karker in third.

Andrew Johnson: Like I said, Eileen Gu – legend already. Two golds and one silver at 18-years-old. Look out!

I think when Zoe Atkin went all out on the first two runs she was trying to do some harder tricks that she hadn’t put down before.

In better conditions she would probably have been able to do that and on a different day it might have worked out.

  18. 'To ski in the Olympics is an amazing oppportunity'published at 03:18 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2022

    Women's freeski halfpipe final

Team GB’s Zoe Atkin speaking to BBC TV: "I had some speed issues which led to me not being able to do some tricks I wanted to do. I’m glad I put one run down because I fell on my first two.

"To be able to ski in the Olympic is an amazing opportunity and I was really glad to make it to the finals and make it this far on my Olympic debut.

"I definitely wanted to land a good, clean run that was a bit bigger with some harder tricks but unfortunately I didn’t have the speed."

Eileen Gu gets a victory lap. She has been in a different league today.

Three medals in three events. A lot of people speculated it was impossible and it might never be done.

It takes so much energy to win a medal in one event. She made it look ridiculously easy.
