Eileen Gu looks shell-shocked by that score. She's got tears in her eyes.

She knows a second Olympic gold medal is on its way.

    Women's freeski halfpipe final

Now it's Eileen Gu's second attempt and no wonder she is smiling at the end of it. It's even better than the first and it's a score 95.25, improving her tally by two points from her first effort.

No-one is coming close to her. Gu on the verge of her third medal of the Games, and her second gold.

If Canada's Cassie Sharpe is to deny Gu, she has to boost her score by more than five points in the third and final run.

Eileen Gu is leading, and this was her first run.

It’s exactly where Zoe Atkin went down on her first run.

She has left it to the last minute, she will be relying on her final run.

She needs to put these first two runs out of her head now.

  6. 'Not happening for her'published at 02:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2022

    Women's freeski halfpipe final

    Katie Falkingham

Argh Zoe! Another fall. She seems to have done something to her right ski on that one too, holds it off the snow as she slides down to the bottom of the pipe.

She shrugs as she waits for her score. It's not happening for her so far.

  7. Atkin falls againpublished at 02:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2022

    Women's freeski halfpipe final

It's another fall for Zoe Atkin. Her first move was OK, she landed low on her second, but then, just as she did in the first run, loses her balance, does the splits and ends up on the snow.

If she's going to win a medal, she's going to have to forget about both falls and do something sensational.

Here's Zoe Atkin for her second run. How will she do after a fall earlier on this morning?

  9. 'Huge second run'published at 02:16 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2022

A huge second run from Canada's defending champion Cassie Sharpe. She stays second but scores 90.00.

There are people in the crowd holding up Canadian flags on ice hockey sticks. Now that's good recycling.

Cassie Sharpe knows she needs something special if she is to win Olympic gold again. Back-to-back 900s, one of which hits a height of 3.5m, helps her grab a score of 90.

That's an improvement for her, with some marks shaved off after a landing that was not flawless.

That is so gutting for Carly Margulies.

You can work through your own performance, you can say this happened and know why it happened and then work on that.

But to have an issue with your ski on two of your three runs is rattling.

"I've got a problem with my skis," says American Carly Margulies, whose second run comes to a halt within seconds.

That's two runs that have come and gone for her, just one last chance to get a score on the board that she'd be happy with.

  13. 'The wind is going to shake things up'published at 02:04 Greenwich Mean Time 18 February 2022

The wind is definitely going to shake things up. It already is, you can see some of the riders who normally go big are just going a bit smaller so they don’t fall.

It could play into the hands of those with better grabs or who are a bit more technical.

The snow is artificial which doesn’t help with the skiing. It gets a bit grippy and with the wind, it’s tough out there.

That was all looking so good for Zoe Atkin before that fall. Hopefully that won't have added to the nerves too much.

It's very cold out there today, and some real big gusts of wind keep whipping up, sending loose snow everywhere.

The stars are aligning for Eileen Gu.

It’s not an excruciatingly difficult run but she maintained her amplitude.

    93.25.

That puts her in the hotseat for this final, the rest of the pack are chasing China’s Eileen Gu.

Back to back 900s make it a stunning start to Eileen Gu's bid for her second gold of the Games and she looks pretty satisfied with her run.

She was the best in qualifying and she's the best so far today with a great score of 93.25.

That's already a mammoth lead and is going to take some catching.

There's a huge crowd here, presumably to watch Eileen Gu. I'm not talking the fans that have been bussed in either - I'm talking volunteers and Games staff.

So much so, they're having to move the fences to create more room. Not much social distancing going on...

Canada's Rachael Karker is dialled in straight away - there's no gentle building into this event for her. One trick sees her flying 4.1m in the air and it's a score of 87.75, with only fellow Canadian Cassie Sharpe ahead of her.

Now comes the clear favourite, Eileen Gu of China...
