We were hoping to see a smaller deficit because Kat is a lot better at the 800m but 121 points is a lot of time to make up.

    WOW.

A massive 54.04m for Nafi Thiam with her first throw, getting her to 939 points and leapfrogging Katarina Johnson-Thompson at the top of the standings.

That was always going to be the case, though, given Thiam's strength in this. It's going to be more about what time KJT will need to chase down in the 800m.

    Heptathlon - Event 6 javelin

Nafi Thiam is so strong at this event.

The Belgian throws a huge season's best of 54.04m, nearly nine metres clear of Katarina Johnson-Thompson's best effort.

That moves her 121 points ahead of KJT as things stand - and she could still improve on that in her next two throws.

    • Three points are awarded for moves 20 to 30, two points for moves 10 to 20, and one point for moves zero to 10.

It's hot here at the climbing. I don't know whether that helps or not.

There are hipster, straight-peaked caps and bucket hats everywhere in the crowd.

    I feel very uncool.

    Climbing wall

So after the boulder part of this final, Great Britain's Hamish McArthur is fourth in the standings and Toby Roberts third.

Next is the 'lead' stage. Basically each climber has six minutes to scurry their way as high up this wall as possible. The higher they get, the more points they will score.

I've just been for a look at the wall and I'm glad it's them not me!

The climbers get six minutes to assess the wall and try to plan a route.

Ben Pattison finished fourth in the first semi-final, and was speaking to BBC Sport:

"I knew straight away that time wouldn’t be good enough. This is the Olympics, 1m 45s is not good enough.

"I’m very disappointed – I felt like I didn’t have it in me today, I don’t know why. I’ll have to watch it back, see if I ran wide , see if I did too much work early on.

"Not my day today, I let myself down but it’s the Olympics, I’m learning, I’ll learn a lot from that race but gutted.

Very unusual for him not to be able to come through at the end?

"In the first lap my legs didn’t feel right. I don’t know if that was in my head but or the pushing and shoving, whether it was something to do with that.

"But no excuses, I just didn’t have it on the day unfortunately."
