Think it’s fair to file Tommy Fleetwood’s third round under ‘solid but not spectacular’.

But most importantly he remains thick in the medal hunt at the Olympic men's golf event.

Fleetwood started in a share of the lead and, while those around him enjoyed a birdie-fest, he carded a two-under 69.

The 33-year-old Englishman ends Saturday in the bronze medal position.

Tomorrow he will go out last with Spain's Jon Rahm, who shot 66, and defending champion Xander Schauffele.

The American almost snatched the outright overnight lead with a birdie putt which fell inches short on the 18th.

Rory McIlroy, playing for Ireland, is four shots behind the leaders after a five-under 66.

Gymnastics - men's pommel horse final

Team GB's Max Whitlock speaking to BBC TV after finishing fourth in the men's pommel horse final: "It is very raw at the moment and I would have loved for it to end in a better way here in Paris. But I do not want anyone to look at the way I am feeling now and think that it is a reflection of my career, I am so proud standing here today.

It was a challenge getting here. I could have quit after Tokyo and I decided to come back. I think giving yourself a good shot, giving yourself the opportunity to go forward rather than quitting out of fear of failure.

"I am proud to be here. Of course I would have wanted for it to end better but my decision to come here was not based on the outcome. It was based on just being here at my fourth Olympics and to have that fourth Olympics in my journey.

"It is gutting and disappointing, of course it is, but I am proud. I am done now, I am not a gymnast any longer. I have done my final routine and I can be very happy."

A huge congratulations to Max Whitlock. It's not neccesarily the way he would have wanted to bow out but what he's achieved in his career, we have to look back and give him unbelievable credit.

He has been a trailblazer on that piece of apparatus. The longevity, the way he has pushed boundaries and upped difficulty. People have always had to battle him as reigning champion and match him.
