It wasn't the cleanest we have seen Max Whitlock do that routine.

15.200 is still a very impressive score and it will definitely take some beating in an Olympic final.

    Stephen Nedoroscik, take a bow.

When you have finals so close like this, it is easy to be so self-critical.

It's bittersweet for Max Whitlock. He came here, it's his fourth Olympics.

He has done his job but just been nudged out of the medals. You've got to feel for him.

Rhys McClenaghan certainly went for it, upped the difficulty on the tourine and had a real speed on the routine. That was just an incredible performance. He has come to this games and performed so well. The pressure on his shoulders to go and perform that routine is incredible and he put in the routine of his life.

He has just done the routine of his life and that is a pommel horse routine worthy of gold, under so much pressure.

The Team Ireland gymnast knows what Max Whitlock has scored, now it’s his time to show what he can do.

Interestingly, McClenaghan didn't watch any of Whitlock's routine as he prepared for his own run.

It was also a huge score Nariman Kirbanov to set things off!

He’s a double world, triple European and a Commonwealth champion – is this time to complete a career Grand Slam?

Despite being billed as a showdown with GB’s Max Whitlock, Team Ireland’s Rhys McClenaghan has said it is just “me against me” in today’s final.

However, the pair have been interlinked ever since McClenaghan burst into the scene and they are tipped to go head-to-head once again in Paris.

It was Whitlock who claimed gold in Tokyo, and is looking to make it three in a row, but there’s no doubt that the gymnast from Northern Ireland feels like this is his time after qualifying in first place.

You also can’t rule out Stephen Nedoroscik, who went viral after sitting there quietly throughout the USA’s team event before taking off his glasses, smashing his pommel horse routine and then swiftly sitting back down again as the Americans won a bronze medal.

He can also solve a Rubik’s cube inside 10 seconds. It won’t get him any extra points tonight but, my word, that’s impressive.

There's lots of support for all three men in the Bercy Arena this afternoon.

  20. Khelif through to Olympic semi-finalspublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 3 August

    Boxing - women's 66kg quarter-final

Imane Khelif is guaranteed an Olympic medal after she won her quarter-final against Hungary’s Anna Luca Hamori - winning via a unanimous decision.

The Algerian boxer's previous bout lasted just 46 seconds against Italy’s Angela Carini.

This afternoon Hamori, who yesterday said it wasn’t fair Khelif was taking part in the women’s category, gave her a sterner test with each of the three rounds a close affair.

Khelif is one of two athletes - along with Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting - who have been cleared to compete having been disqualified from last year's Women's World Championships after they were said to have failed gender eligibility tests.

Khelif is now through to the semi-finals meaning she is guaranteed at least a bronze medal.
