Evenepoel must have been considering riding to the finish on a flat. I think he has enough of a buffer not to worry.

But what a moment of drama in the final.

For her second attempt, the 22-year-old manages to stay on her feet, but it's another shaky landing and the momentum takes her forward - right under the vault camera: 12.666, making her average score a 13.416.

This Olympic leaderboard is like a Top of the Pops Christmas Special - stars everywhere playing their biggest hits.

Jon Rahm. Xander Schauffele. Tommy Fleetwood. Nicolai Hojgaard. Hideki Matsuyama. Rory McIlroy. Scottie Scheffler.

That's the first page as it stands.

Britain's Fleetwood is grafting away at 13 under - one behind Rahm and Schauffele - but those birdie putts are just not coming with the same regularity today as his nearest rivals.

    Another slips by on 16.

'A great vault but she can't beat Biles'published at 16:12 British Summer Time 3 August

    Gymnastics - women's vault final

    Christine Still
    Gymnastics expert on BBC TV

It is a massively difficult vault from Rebeca Andrade, delighted to land securely. The difficulty is one whole mark less than Simone Biles. That shows how much better she has to execute it. She can't really beat Biles with that. But it is a great vault.

    Louis Smith MBE

Rebeca Andrade is just trying not to make it as easy for Simone Biles as she can.

I think she knew deep down that she was not going to catch the vaults that Simone has done but she let Simone know that she is there to chase her all the way if she does stick round.

She will be very happy with that.

That was outrageous from Rebeca Andrade.

She slots into second behind Biles but was stunning, and the Brazilian fans behind me absolutely loved that.

In fact, they enjoyed it so much I now can't hear out of my left ear.

There's a lovely hug between the two frontrunners, too, which is great to see.

    Gymnastics - women's vault final

Will this be enough to beat Simone Biles? The difficulty level for Rebeca Andrade's second vault is one mark less than the American's, so this could be a silver medal for the 25-year-old Brazilian.

Andrade is awarded a 14.833 for her second attempt, giving her an average of 14.966.

Biles leads, Andrade is in the silver medal position and An Chang-ok is sitting in third place.

I'm back at the boxing where Imane Khalif fights for the second time in the competition later.

The Algerian's opponent today, after the 46-second win against Italian Angela Carini, is Luca Anna Hamori. Hungary's Hamori has said she did not “think it is fair” Khelif is competing.

It's noticeable that there are a number of Algeria fans here with their t-shirts and flags.

"We are here to show Imane we are with her," one tells me.

The fight is at 16:22 BST. The winner will be guaranteed a bronze medal at worst.

    Jess Anderson

Well. We're heading for extra time at the Parc des Princes.

It's been a game lacking in quality to be honest. The United States had a late penalty shout but there wasn't enough in it.

They've just edged it in the way of chances but I can't really think of any big saves either keeper has had to make.

    It's not been a classic.
