Judo-mania for the hostspublished at 19:22 British Summer Time 3 August

On my way to La Defense Arena, there were a lot of people standing around outside bars and restaurants watching the judo.

Judo is massive in France - Teddy Riner, who won men's +100kg gold yesterday, is an actual icon - and the team were going for gold in the mixed event.

It was a stunner of a match as well - France had come back to send it to Golden Score, where the first score decides the match.

And unsurprisingly, it was Rinner who got the crucial score to hand France their 12th gold medal.

There's something to be said about the impact of hosting a Games on the nation's athletes.

Daryll Neita is great at being able to keep centralised in her lane. She gets the forward momentum going and uses those feet actively underneath her to haul herself into second place. The consistency is so important in this event and she really does look good.

  3. Riner equals French gold recordpublished at 19:20 British Summer Time 3 August

Teddy Riner has collected a fifth gold medal to become France's joint-most decorated Olympian by helping his nation to the judo mixed team title.

Riner won the final's decisive bout to give France a 4-3 win over Japan who collected silver. South Korea took bronze after beating Germany by the same scoreline.

Riner, 35, joins biathlete Martin Fourcade - France's only five-time Olympic champion - who won his titles at the Sochi and Pyeongchang winter Games in 2014 and 2018.

Fencers Philippe Cattiau and Roger Ducret won fewer golds but had eight podium finishes in the 1920s and 1930s.

Riner and Fourcade have won seven medals each.

There were no surprises from Daryll Neita. We saw in the heat she was in complete control of her race. She doesn't tie up at the end of the race, she stays in great form. And that's what got her through today.

What a run from Daryll Neita, that is how you drive out of the blocks!

She has got to get back to the training track, she has got to compose herself and we want to see that plus more in the final.

Great stuff. Awesome running from the Jamaican Tia Clayton.

For me with the 100m consistency wins these sorts of races. For me Julien Alfred has been that woman, she has got better and better throughout the season. She is strong and powerful and is able to use any traction she gets in the beginning to her advantage. Sha'Carri Richardson will need to start better than that if she wants to get on terms.

St Lucia have never had an Olympic medal full stop and I think the whole island will just be going crazy.

For me, it is swaying into Julien Alfred's camp.

Sha'Carri Richardson can't give Alfred that much of a head start.

Discipline, dedication, and a little delusion.

At her third Olympic Games, Daryll Neita, believes anything is possible in Paris.

The 27-year-old is a five-time global medallist as an ever-present in the British women's 4x100m team, including Olympic bronze at both Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.

But here, at her third Olympics, Neita, the second-fastest British woman of all time, will seek to replicate that relay success in the 100m and 200m events as she pursues individual honours.

"My goals are through the roof. I don’t put limits on myself at all," Neita told BBC Sport earlier this year.

"It would mean the world to me [to win an individual medal]. I have put in so much work to be in this position. It would be all of that hard work and dedication paying off.

"One thing I always say is: 'Be a bit delusional.' Believe in yourself, keep going and don't give up."

Lorenzo Musetti is a set to the good in the men's singles bronze medal match against Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Canada's Auger-Aliassime fought back from losing an early break of serve to make it 4-4, but Musetti broke again in the ninth game - the highlight being a dreamy backhand pass down the line for 0-40 - and the Italian then held serve to take the set 6-4.

World champion Sha'Carri Richardson leaves it late, but she strolls across the finish line in second.

GB's Imani Lansiquot is fifth and won't make the final.

    It's a big ask for the 26-year-old.

She's up against American world champion Sha'Carri Richardson, who is in lane four.

Lane five is empty. That's where Jamaica's Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was supposed to be lining up.
