Simone Biles is the only female gymnast in the world we have seen do this type of vault jump.

It's scary when we first saw her do it. She rockets up there and then pikes in, it's difficult to do a dead landing, but she will always be happy to overcook it and still land it.

Simone Biles has made it clear she's really going for it - she's delivered her massive Biles II - the highest scoring vault in the women's code. Its start value is a huge 6.40. So even though it's not a perfect landing it does not matter - the risk is worth the reward as she nets 15.766 and the arena goes wild.

Rebeca Andrade opted instead for a much safer vault, which she sticks brilliantly. But the start values was 5.600 so already she loses ground on Biles with 15.100.

Team GB are starting their first rotation on the floor and Georgia-Mae Fenton - the reigning two-time Commonwealth champion on uneven bars - has scored a 13.033.

Alice Kinsella is the only member of the Tokyo 2020 bronze medal-winning British team to be selected for Paris and her name rings out by the stadium announcer.

"It depends on the Spain v South Africa result but it is going Great Britain's way at the moment. To get this win and this result will do the team a world of good. It's such a massive confidence booster and hopefully with nine minutes to go it doesn't end up being a tense win."

Great Britain have one foot in the quarter-finals of the women's hockey competition after beating the United States 5-2 in their penultimate match in Pool B.

After closing out their victory with a goalless final quarter, they await the result of the ongoing match between Spain and South Africa.

Should South Africa fail to win - they currently trail 1-0 late in the third quarter - then GB will definitely progress to the knock-out stages.

Simone Biles goes into this all-around final favourite to win a sixth Olympic gold medal and her second of these blue-riband titles after her Rio 2016 triumph.

All the focus has been on here on her return following those 'twisties' at Tokyo 2020 - when she was tipped for several golds including the all-around before she pulled out of most events to prioritise her mental health.

But is there anyone who could challenge the world's most decorated gymnast today?

Enter Rebeca Andrade, Brazil's history-making gymnast, who is probably the only one in the field who has skills in her repertoire that can come close to or at least have a chance to outscore a less-than-perfect Biles move.

In Tuesday's team final her total score was just 0.366 behind Biles as she helped Brazil to a first ever team medal. But then Biles did not do her more difficult vault. But then Andrade also has other upgrades, including a new vault.

This final could be closer than many people might think.

Sunisa Lee, USA's other medal hope in this women's all-around final, is at the end of the vault.

The 21-year-old, who won the title at the delayed Tokyo Games, is awarded a 13.933 for her first attempt.

Next up is the other big hitter in this battle - Brazil's Rebeca Andrade. She's called the vault queen, so this could be a decent opener for the 25-year-old. And it's 15.100.

    Here comes Simone Biles...

I think you could compare her to the Bolt of gymnastics. I mean she just has so much power! She's not the biggest of gymnasts but if you just look at power to weight ratio, she is so explosive and I think that stands her out from everyone else.

Great Britain have two gymnasts in this women's all-around final - Alice Kinsella and Georgia-Mae Fenton, who have just been introduced to the crowd. Both were below par in qualifying, particularly on uneven bars, and only just squeezed into the final.

But they cut out the errors to lead GB to fourth place in Tuesday's team final, where they thought they had done enough to snatch a bronze, and will hope to channel the momentum they had into this final.

They are in the same one of the four groups and will start on floor before moving to vault, uneven bars and finishing on beam.

While we await the arrival of one gymnastics legend, we hear from another - Nadia Comaneci, the 1976 Olympic all-around champion who made history by scoring the first perfect 10 (back in the previous scoring system where that was the highest you could get - now it's an open-ended scoring system).

She says everyone is here to watch "the amazing Simone Biles", who can draw level with Comaneci today on nine Olympic gymnastics medals. "I think she's going to pass that," the Romanian tells the Bercy Arena crowd. Biles still has another three finals after this one in Paris.

It is still a way off Soviet Union gymnast Larisa Latynina's record of 18 Olympic women's gymnastics medals. Czechoslovakia's Vera Caslavska is second on the list with 11.

Hands on head as he sees his time on the screen. A great effort, but it was not to be as minor mistakes added up.
