I don't think any of these men was confident they'd won that race. The pace was astonishing.

Incredible times. The fastest 100m we have ever witnessed when it comes to performances!

Noah Lyles is heading to the very top of that list. Incredible performance from him.

Just five thousandths of a second has made Lyles leap into the history books.

    This is just so exceptional.

It came down to the tightest of margins in that race for gold...

    Five-thousandths of them in fact!

Ed Franklin: Thompson lost it in his head, ran so tight compared to the semi. The scandalous hold at the start probably didn't help. But all about the mindset.

Dinesh: That was insane. Sop doubting Noah Lyles!

All of that was done in the last 10 metres. Fred Kerley was the man that was showing the best form in the latter stages, Kishane Thompson erupted out of the box and was absolutely flying and just tied up. Noah Lyles is on top of the world.

    Five thousandths of a second.

That's what separated Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson.

Fred Kerley was two hundredths of a second behind them and the American takes bronze.

They're watching, they're looking. I've never seen a finish this close.

That's it. Lyles has his gold. Unbelievable. Thompson can only look on.

Lyles didn't even have a medal 10m out. He didn't have a hope of winning. He came fast, he came hard, and in the end, by the smallest of margins, he has taken the Olympic title.

Beaten in the heats, beaten in the semi-final, but he's won the one that mattered most.

    IT'S GOLD FOR NOAH LYLES!

It's a photo finish, but he's pipped Kishane Thompson of Jamaica by the closest of margins.

9.79 seconds! That's a personal best for the American. What a time to pull that out of the bag.

He just needs to hold his nerve.
