    Danielle Rowe
London 2012 gold medallist speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live

Emma Finucane had a phenomenal Games so far.

Every single cyclist that’s got on the boards has come away with a medal which is quite extraordinary.

We are one of the sports that generally do very well and that comes with a lot of pressure.

I think this pretty young and experienced team, has handled themselves exceptionally well. They've ridden with maturity not only physically but mentally, as well.

Thorpe, said: "It has been a whirlwind and we are so excited I cannot believe it. It's really hard to put into words and all the hard training has paid off - it's testament to everyone who has been helping us.

"We may as well be sisters we have spent so much time together. Since being 12 we have spent every single day together, almost.

"When you have the same goal in mind it makes it a lot easier."

Shortman, said: "It feels like a dream.

"It is difficult to put into words, people think it has been an overnight success and it has been our whole lives for it all to come together - the night was incredible.

"It is amazing to have all the friends and family there, the venue was quite close proximity so we could hear them all and feel the energy.

"When we saw the score it is a moment I will never forget, it is so incredible."

The Netherlands' Sifan Hassan is trying her best to keep pace with the lead pack. It looks as though she's running with some sort of ice gel pack across her forehead.

It must be extremely hard for these women this morning.

Olympic taekwondo silver medallist Caden Cunningham speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Very, very upset I missed out on the gold. I’ve got nothing but respect for that athlete. He came to fight, same way I did and yesterday he was better than me.

"There’s times in sports where people can feel hard done by – maybe the referee’s doing something wrong, anything like that. This guy, me and him both had a clean fight.

"Nothing went askew. As saddening as it is - I was born to fight and have these good fights. Yesterday I had four of them and just one of them didn’t go my way."

'Seeing Keely win gold was a massive boost'published at 08:32 British Summer Time 11 August

    Women's 1500m

Team GB's 1500m bronze medallist, Georgia Bell speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "Going through the whirlwind, but I am very happy. I was shocked at the time, I didn't realise how fast I was going till I finished - I was overwhelmed.

"I knew I could finish strong, but I knew I couldn't let a gap open up in the middle of the race, that is where it starts to hurt.

"I was making sure I stuck with it, that is what I needed to do - proud I was able to hang in there and come through at the very end."

On returning to the sport after quitting: "I quit after college as I wasn't seeing improvements so I went into the working world, then COVID got me back into running again.

"I never thought I would be able to get to this level, I am so happy. Seeing Keely win gold was a massive boost, I train with Keely and I had no pressure on me as I knew I was in shape."

Watching the Olympics from the comfort of home, contemplating what might have been, Georgia Bell could not have foreseen the journey ahead.

It was only three years ago, around the time of the Tokyo Games, that Bell began to enjoy running again.

On the TV, athletes whom she had once competed against - and beaten - were living their dream on the sport's greatest stage.

But that was a dream Bell had long since given up on.

"When I quit after college it was just so clear I hadn’t reached my full potential and it wasn't a happy ending. There was something left but I thought it would always be that way," Bell, 30, tells BBC Sport.

"I just didn’t know journeys like this existed."

An English Schools 800m champion in 2008, Bell's talent was clear and her future bright. Yet, physically and mentally, that early promise proved unsustainable.

Her spikes had gone unused for four years when Tokyo arrived, but there remained a sense of unfinished business.

Emma Hayes underlined her status as one of the best coaches in the women's game by leading the United States to Olympic football gold in her first tournament in charge.

The 47-year-old Englishwoman only took over little under three months ago, but has transformed a transitional US team into Olympic champions.

Mallory Swanson's composed second-half finish was enough to secure the Americans' first Olympic gold since 2012 - and fifth overall.
