How does weightlifting work?published at 10:33 British Summer Time 11 August

    Weightlifting - women's +81kg

    Amy Lofthouse
    BBC Sport in Paris

    It's all very simple.

The competition split into two parts - snatch, where the barbell is lifted above the head in one movement, and clean and jerk, where it is lifted above the head in two.

Athletes get three attempts at each lift, and move up by a minimum weight of 1kg each time they are successful

The weights of their best lift from both parts are added together and that produces medal total

Two white lights means the lift is good, and it's off you go to the next one.
