It is all on Kerenza Bryson and if anyone can do it, she can. She told me at the world championships last year that she started Modern Pentathlon after a demonstration day that I was running.

So, after that bombshell Kate French news earlier, two become one for Team GB.

Kerenza Bryson now solely carries the nation's hopes of a medal in the modern pentathlon.

Going into the final day, the 25-year-old junior doctor trails France's 2016 silver medallist Elodie Clouvel and Hungary's Michelle Gulyas.

Bryson is well in the medal mix and will be hoping her consistency across all disciplines will bear fruit today.

Here's what she and the rest of the field have to take on (all times in BST)…

    1040-1100: Fencing bonus round

What is the omnium?published at 10:02 British Summer Time 11 August

    Women's omnium: scratch race

The omnium is a test of all-round endurance, featuring four different events ridden in the space of a few hours in the following order: scratch race, tempo race, elimination race, points race.

There are 22 riders in both the men’s and women’s competition. In the first three races, the winner scores 40 points, the second-placed rider 38 points, and so on, with the 20th rider scoring two points. Riders ranked 21st and below are each awarded one point.

Each cyclist’s accumulated points total from the first three race is carried into the final event, the points race, where further points are added or lost based on their performance, eg, winning sprints, taking or losing laps.

The overall omnium winner is the rider with most points after the four events.

    Track cycling - women's omnium

It's pretty remarkable that Neah Evans is able to be at these Olympics at all.

In April, she was diagnosed with Epstein-Barr virus, an infection that "properly floored" her and left her struggling to climb stairs.

Four months on, she's got one Olympic medal, a silver from the madison, in her Paris luggage, with the chance of another in the omnium today.

GB's Evans about to take to trackpublished at 09:54 British Summer Time 11 August

    Women’s omnium: scratch race

The first event at the velodrome is the women’s omnium: scratch race - 22 riders racing for 7.5km, or 30 laps of the track.

    I'm tired just writing it.

Neah Evans takes the ride in the omnium after Katie Archibald broke her leg just before the Games. The 34-year-old’s rivals will include the USA’s reigning world champion Jennifer Valente, who has already won gold here in the team pursuit.

Also riding is Belgium’s Lotte Kopecky, the runner-up to Archibald at the 2021 World Championships and world bronze medallist last year.

The 28-year-old, who won bronze in the road race earlier in the Games, has said the Olympic omnium was one of her main targets for this year.

Others to watch out for include Japan’s Tokyo silver medallist Yumi Kajihara and France’s Valentine Fortin, who was fifth at last year’s World Championships and won bronze at the European Championships earlier this year.

For those of you who watched the track cycling last night and saw Britain's Ollie Wood brought down in a collision with the Netherlands' Jan Willem van Schip, there was some news late last night.

The Netherlands have been disqualified from the madison results because of "improper conduct and behaviour that endangers another rider (blow with the helmet)".

Van Schip has also been fined 1,000 Swiss francs (£904) by the UCI.

As a result, GB have been bumped up to ninth in the final standings.
