We’ve spoken throughout this programme about the journeys that you go on as Olympic athletes and it does feel like we have watched Tom’s life in four year cycles. When he won that gold with Matty, the first thing I thought was how proud his dad would be. He didn’t get to see so much of Tom’s success.

But in a nice way, Tom knows how to play the game so well because he has been engrained within this for so long. It’s a last hurrah for him now in Paris. But Tokyo was a weird Games, the Covid times with no spectators. So we did feel a bit like, oh no, this isn’t how Tom should’ve got his gold! But he has another chance now.

The story starts with Tom as a 14-year-old in Beijing. We can all remember him there, he was just a kid. And now all this time later, he’s a national hero.

There was also a lot of expectation on Matty because everybody was rooting for Tom to get this first gold, but he handled it so well and was so gracious afterwards when naturally, most people wanted to speak to Tom.

It was like if Carlsberg did Olympic couples – let’s just get all the medals. Can you imagine what their wedding was like? It was only about a month later.

Jason never clamoured for attention or for status. He was happy for his sporting achievements always incredibly humble.

We have seen some powerhouse women in this programme already but Laura is one of those who has really pushed that inspiration for young girls in sports and as a father of three girls now my admiration has just shot up. I know that sounds quite ignorant but it’s a fact. Our young women need strong, successful role models in society and Laura is absolutely one of them.

I love them, they’re amazing to watch and like all good sports stars they take you on the journey with them. You’re rooting for them both the whole way. They’re pretty well-placed on the medal table just by themselves. These are the couple that got engaged on the sofa while watching EastEnders, they’re just my kind of people and you can relate to them.

Jason’s the quiet one, Laura’s the bubbly one but they just work as a couple and boy, do they work on the track? It was a wonderful story that was literally full of gold, it made us all so proud.

Being in a relationship with somebody from within your own sport can be very difficult to navigate. You’re dealing with your own emotions and your partner’s emotions during something like an Olympic cycle.

    Men's Rugby Sevens - Fiji 38-12 USA

Fiji have taken the gold medal at the 2016 and 2020 Olympics and it looks like they are going to take some stopping after making it back-to-back wins.

After a 40-12 victory against Uruguay earlier, Fiji have followed up with a 38-12 triumph against the USA.

They are already guaranteed a place in the knockout phase but need to avoid defeat against France in their final Pool C match tomorrow to be certain of top spot.

Max Whitlock is another iconic British Olympian in one final hurrah before retirement. After planning to quit post-Tokyo, three-time gold medallist Whitlock found the fire in the belly still burned.

If he defends the title he won in Tokyo, he will become the first gymnast to win four Olympic medals on the same apparatus.

His floor routine just left me mesmerised. All Olympians are impressive but when you see what gymnasts put their bodies through, it is unbelievable.

The story wasn’t Max at the time, though – it was about whether Louis could upgrade his silver medal from London and bronze from Beijing. But Max just came in and pipped him. The atmosphere in the gymnasium that day was astonishing.

When he won the first gold on the floor he just had this look in his eyes where you knew, he’s not done yet. And the British double with Louis Smith getting silver on the pommels, it was just flawless.

Max was golden, and he is just the loveliest guy. We followed his journey, he’s now 31, we’ve got his farewell in Paris but Rio was his history-making moment.

There was a time when Adam Peaty seemed invincible. Clocking the top 20 times of all-time ensured he dominated his event for nearly a decade.

Injuries and personal issues led to a loss of form and a revaluation of what was important. Having come through a "self-destructive spiral", Peaty will challenge for a third successive gold medal.

She was 19 years old and it was a pure, wonderful example of what you can do as an in-form athlete as the Olympics. You can just ride the wave and take on the world, and that’s what she did. It was just outstanding.

Just an unbelievable performance. In 48 years, Britain hadn’t had a female gold medallist in the pool and then Becky gets two in a week. And it was the way she did it, too – it was an absolute demolition job. She wasn’t the favourite, particularly in the 400m. They are both very, very tough events.

I remember Becky’s face when she realised she’d won the 400m freestyle, she looked completely bemused and needed a few seconds before she actually noticed she hadn’t come second, she’d won it.

It’s the smile - if you heard Nicola speak before the Games, you’d think she was so quiet and reserved but then she got in that ring and just turned into a warrior. It gave me goosebumps listening to that crowd.

It’s great to win a gold medal obviously but to be the first female ever in your sport – you’re in the history books. A lot comes with being a sportsperson these days.

They are brands, they are role models. And someone like Nicola Adams, she is wonderful for sport because of that. It was a real marquee moment.

There was so much pressure and expectation on Nicola because it was the first time women’s boxing had been included in the Olympics. Her career was one of quite a lot of firsts, because she was the first real star of women’s boxing’s timeline as it built towards London 2012.

I remember watching it and just thinking, 'you go girl'. She was outstanding and carried the weight of expectation so well, always with a huge smile on her face.

We've got just three matches still go on what has been a busy day in the men's Rugby Sevens competition.

France were held to a 12-12 draw by the USA earlier but they've responded well to earn a 19-12 victory against Uruguay.

Antoine Dupont scored his first try of the Olympics in that triumph to help his nation to the top of Pool C, although Fiji and the USA, who are playing now, could climb to the summit if they pick up a win.

Pool B is going to come down to a final game shoot-out between first-placed Argentina and second-placed Australia.

They've both won their opening two matches and will battle it out for top spot at 13:30 BST tomorrow.

Two-time Olympic champion Glover, 38, is competing at her fourth Games and said carrying the British flag would be "the biggest honour of my life".

Glover, who has three children, bids for her third Olympic title after coming out of retirement for a second time - ending her career following both the Rio and Tokyo Games.

The three-time world champion, who will compete in Paris as part of the women’s four, became the first mother to row for Great Britain at an Olympics when she finished fourth alongside Polly Swann in the women's pairs in Tokyo.

"I never thought I would be an Olympian. Being part of history as a flagbearer, I haven't really got my head round it yet," Glover said.

"Everyone I have told so far has cried, and I cried when I was told, which goes to show how much of an honour it is and how much it means."
